Case & Sons Information
Case & Sons Information
Hi!
I'm new here and a little lost. My friend passed away recently and I was left with his knife collection. I have a Case & Sons knife that I can't find any information on.
At the base of the knife above the hilt, one side says, 'Cases's Tested XX' and the other side says, 'W.R. Case & Sons Bradford PA.' The hilt is about 4 1/2" wrapped in leather strips varying from black to dark red to dark yellow/gold. The blade is about 5".
If anyone knows anything about this type of knife, the information would be greatly appreciated. I've researched it to death and can't find anything that is like this one. Oh, the leather case has a picture of a 10 point buck and underneath it says , 'Cases Sportsman.' Thanks!
Tosha

Re: Case & Sons Information
Tosha, welcome to AAPK.
From your description sounds like you've got an old Case fixed blade "hunting" knife, probably made between 1914 and 1934. As others have said, some pictures of the knife would be a big help in identifying exactly what you have. May or may not be capable of a better estimate depending on the exact stamping, which is why pictures would help. Also please measure the knife from end to end, as fixed blades are usually described by the overall length and not the length of blade or handle (It may sound nit-picky, but your "about" this length is insufficient for a positive ID). Does it look like either of these?

Forgot the measurements. It's 9" in total length. 4 1/2" blade, 4 1/2" hilt.

Re: Case & Sons Information
I'm no expert by any means, and especially not on fixed blades. Probably know just enough to be dangerous!
Just looking at reference books 9" length, and having the blood groove, stacked leather handle with brass spacers, fits for the 325 model. Josh (junebug) may be right about 324 also - my reference book doesn't show a 324 picture but they did make that model. According the http://www.wrcase.com, stamping dates to pre-1932, if I'm reading it correctly. Hopefully a real expert will come along and provide information.
