Jerry is (of course) correct about the "H & E" standing for the knife having a Sheepfoot and Pen blade. Since the first letters of those blade types have different meanings on Case knife stampings, they decided to use the second letter in the blade name(s) to ID the blade configuration in the model stamp. Hope this tidbit helps someone.
