I can't believe this thread is not more active. I just "discovered" the beauty of the venerable old barlow and now I've gone nuts for barlow knives. Here's a beautiful Russell EO stag I just picked up for $55...unbelievable!

I think one of the reasons I haven't paid much attention to barlow knives in the past is because I'm just not a big fan of the side-by-side blade configuration. But, ever since I discovered the single blade barlows, I am converted...I've seen the light, Hallelujah! However, I still don't care much for the width and weight of the two-blade barlows...but as a functional EDC, it's hard to go wrong with a Barlow. I'm thinking of getting a two-blade version and then modifying the pen blade into a flat head screwdriver and adding a pocket clip. Does anyone have something like that or has anyone ever seen a factory-produced barlow like that, by any chance? If so, let me know...I'll make you a good trade offer.

QT, do an ebay search for Ric-Nor. They made barlow-sized electrician knives with a bail.
I think those were mostly sheepfoot main blades though. They are shell handled knives,
but the steel is decent. Worth a looksy .. .. ..

This Utica Kutmaster may not win any beauty contests (unless they're held in a tavern at closing time) but the old girl is solid with blades that take a good edge and have lots of snap in them.

I like that Kumaster Jerry....definitely venerable! You can almost tell by looking at those blades the they are good and sharp..

Cuz, I have one just like that, my only Barlow. It is most definitely a tank. Best, heaviest built barlow I've ever coon fingered.

Yep, that's the one. If memory serves, the bail is just pinched into holes
on the shells, not actually pinned. They also made a full size "TL-59"

And I just remembered, Colonial made a barlow/electrician also, with a clip main blade

Either would be a good little EDC

I like the blade configuration; it's almost exactly what I was thinking of. Although, at $135, it's a bit pricey for me at the moment.

Apparently you know me too well, JerryD...and you are correct: I really do prefer a wharncliffe or sheepfoot master blade.

Yup, that's the one I want right there. If anyone has one that they'd be willing to trade for, I'd be willing to work out a good swap (At the moment, I have more knives than cash...so, trading is my only option.)

Barlow's are one of my favorite patterns, I'm always trying to add nice examples to the collection but the competition for nice ones is stiff and a lot have slipped thru my fingers.
Here are a few, a 1972 Queen, a couple of Colonial's, a IXL and my EDC, a SFO Northfield with a non -traditional wharnie blade.

Here are my Barlow "collections?, nothing fancy just a couple of Queen #22, a saw cut delrin Kutmaster and a Camco with the saw cut scales. The Queens are rather unique having a solid type aluminum frame and are nice and light weight. Both have delrin scales. The Queen with the imitation winterbottom is my favorite and has it's tang stamped with Queen Cut. Co. Titusville, Pa. The other queen is not stamped but has the blade etch and a patent number on the tang. Thanks for looking. Terry
