XX Elephant toe / Sunfish no pattern #

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

XX Elephant toe / Sunfish no pattern #

Post by jmam7516 »

I recently acquired a redbone straight XX elephant toe or sunfish (6250). The tang has the 40 - 64 stamping but the reverse has no pattern number. I read some where that Case was hit and miss on pattern numbers up to 1949. Can anyone tell me when pattern numbers were first and more so consistently used. has anybody encountred the 6250's with no pattern numbers from this period? Thanks.

Looks like you have all the info that you need . It is generally accepted that Case began stamping numbers as a rule around 1949 . I do have a couple of XX et's without #'s .

Hey thanks. I feel at ease knowing others have seen this vintage with no pattern #'s

Bob,

Pattern numbers aside, that is a beautiful trio there. Brown, Red and Green bone. Beautiful examples.

Bob, Thank you for taking time to post the pics of you ET's. They are definitely prime examples. I must say I'm partial to the green bone.
