Cheetah with extra 1 tang stamp
Would someone know the value on a Case XX USA c1965-69 Cheetah that has an extra no. 1 on tang stamp = 61111 1/2L. I'll try uploading the photo. Never could find another Cheetah with these numbers. Any help is greatly appreciated! I am new here, so may take me awhile to find the thread again

Hello there, sharpyshack!
to AAPK
On page 109 of Steve Pfeiffer's book, Collecting Case Knives, there is a paragraph devoted to the knife you have pictured. It tells of this pattern with the extra "1", it is an error, highly sought after by collectors.
Seems you may have quite a prize, the stamp looks real!
Would you mind showing a couple of pictures showing the whole knife?

Re: Cheetah with extra 1 tang stamp
Welcome to AAPK, sharpy. Some folks put a lot of value in items incorrectly stamped (factory errors), which obviously makes them "rare". "Rare" doesn't always mean valuable, especially if the item doesn't have much value to begin with. In this case, the knife has value even without the error, and even moreso with it. Congratulations on a nice looking rare knife! Just curious, if you don't mind me asking, how did you acquire it?

Re: Cheetah with extra 1 tang stamp
A weird loop - a friend has an acquaintance whose friend's father passed away who was avid knife collector. My friend Joe purchased a lot from that collection but when he ran out of funds he asked me whether I'd be interested.
So I purchased 80 Fight'n Roosters, 3 Parker custom series Conquistadors and a couple of dozen Case knives, this one among them. Got the whole 1991 Winston Cup Case xx Cokebottle series and some other goodies. I'm veeerrrryyy happy. Knew this Cheetah is rare due to error, just have no idea how much would it be worth at the current market.

Thanks. Sometimes the story of the hunt and acquisition is as interesting or more than the knife! Sounds like you made a good score.

Re: Cheetah with extra 1 tang stamp
sharpyshack, I used to have one of these extra "1" pattern lockbacks a few years ago. The bone was not as pretty as yours, butmy blade was not as worn as yours. Also, mine had just a very slight "wobble" to the blade. I sold mine to a buddy who deals in knives for 400.00. Again, that was a few years ago. Your results may vary depending on how bad someone wants the knife. Hope this helps, Tim
Re: Cheetah with extra 1 tang stamp
I had one about 2 years ago. It looked very similar to your's with nice red color and about the same condition but it had a stress crack at the rear locking bar pin. I sold it to someone I knew collected lockbacks with folding guards for $200. I think it would have brought more on eBay but both the buyer and I were both happy with the transaction. It is a very desirable and hard to find variation of the knife. Nice score!

Re: Cheetah with extra 1 tang stamp
Most Case knives with "factory errors" are not more desirable or valuable than the same knife without the error.
HOWEVER, the Cheetah with the extra 1 is the exception to that. Mint it books at 1000.
I have a mint example in red bone that I am pricing at 800, just to give you an idea.
