Need help with these 2 Case XXL 62055s

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Need help with these 2 Case XXL 62055s

Post by morglan »

I recently picked up these two 62055s, and while I like them both, and love the pattern, there are a couple of minor differences that have me scratching my head.

First, the black bone handled one (1977) has a smaller nail nick than the red boned 1974.

Second, the pen blades are different sizes--the 74 is noticeably smaller than the 77. Neither appear to have been sharpened much if at all. (I happen to prefer the smaller one.)

Otherwise, they seem identical--same size, shape, snap, quality, etc. I have no reason to believe that either one is fake, but I'm no expert.

What do you think?

Maybe the '74 has been sharpened a little.

Is the Tang and the lift line the same size as well - Hard to tell in the pic but looks like the knife actual knife size is a little different and that can be check by measuring the Tang of both to see if those are identical. If the Tangs are the same than most likely it was sharpened at some point.
