I need some help with a Case, please.

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

I need some help with a Case, please.

Post by Dickens »

I need some help with this knife.

The tang stamp is CASE with Bradford, PA. below that indicating 1905 to 1920 production. I was under the impression that this is a toothpick but it measures only 4 1/4" closed. The model number is not very clear and I really don't want to clean it to see what it is. It appears that it's either 61021 or 61031 but I don't see any reference in my books to those numbers for this style of knife.

Can anyone tell me what this is and what it may be worth?

Hey Jim,

Hope life finds you well my friend.

You may have a scarce liitle gem there, not sure. What I can tell you is that CASE used the following pattern number for toothpicks to my knowledge. 093, 094, 095, 096 and 098. Someone please correct me if I am wrong or missed one.
It seems to me the 093 and 095 seem to be most common toothpicks. Could be incorrect but that is what I recall.

Looks like and based on length you provided, the OP knife is a CASE 61094 in Rogers Bone. Not sure I personally have ever seen a 094 but based on the books, they are same length and frame shape of the knife you posted. Looks like made only in TESTED and prior eras/timeframes/CASE companies.

Based on condition, maybe not worth a whole hell of a lot. 100 bucks maybe, I am not really the best to answer that question but condition is everything, even on a scarce knife.

I could be all wet but the pattern numbers you posted seem off. I am sticking with 61094 based on my initial quick assessment and length provided.

I am sure others will chime in soon with their opinion.

Regards, Jerry

Thanks Jerry,

I just put it under a very bright light with a magnifier and it is indeed a 61094.

Dickens,
A mint 61094, Rogers bone is valued at $750 in the Traders Price Guide. Like Jerry said, the condition usually sets the price unless it is very rare. Great knife in my book, I'd be proud to own it in any condition ::tu:: !

Me too TF. Fine old example not matter what condition.

Very nice old Case knife. I would be proud to own it. Oil it and stick it away.

Sweet find, she's a beauty in my opinion. ::tu:: Love those old jigged Rogers bone handles.
