Need Some Help with Value/ID

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Need Some Help with Value/ID

Post by FormerParatrooper »

Apparently, some time in the latter half of the 1990s, I bought an 82nd Airborne Commemorative knife by Case for my Stepfather while I was stationed at Ft. Bragg. It's in a nice, wooden, presentation box and includes a certificate of authenticity saying it's 1 of 1000 and it has the number 214 engraved on it (which, I assume, is which one of the 1000 made it is).

Since then, he never touched it. It's in absolutely perfect condition aside from one scratch on the box lid. He gave it back to me today and, while I have no recollection of ever buying it and no desire to sell it, it has piqued my curiosity.

Does anyone have any idea how I can figure out what it's worth or find out more info about it?

Thanks in advance for any info you can offer. Pics attached.

You have a bone handled trapper pattern that looks to have been made in the mid 1990's. With commemorative knives the value depends on finding someone who wants the knife and the event or subject being commemorated. In your case you would hope to find someone who identifies with the 82nd Airborne, which might be difficult. On the other hand, it might me worth more to you in sentimental value. I sell a lot of Case commemoratives, mostly trapper patterns. Depending on the quantity made and the demand I usually get from $50 to $125 each. That is pretty generic information but I hope it helps you.

Agree - The knife itself is around $50 so your box and presentation items may increase value to someone who wants it. I see some go for $25 or 30 up to $150. All depends on the individual.
