Another Schrade EDC mod

Post by orvet »

::woot:: I made another EDC mod to a Schrade using a new 893 Open Stock blade that I got recently.
This time I used a 197UH, aka, the "Cats Paw", and filed out the notch in the tang for the liner lock.
It works great and the carbon steel in the 893 blade is excellent!

The only thing I would do different is in filing the notch for the liner lock; I used the worn out 197 blade as a pattern to cut the notch.
I think Schrade left some slop in their old liner locks and then this wore more.
If you try to close it with the lock engaged there is a little play before the tang reaches the lock.
Nothing great, just not tight like a Benchmade liner lock.

I sanded this down a bit as the old 197UH frame had been beat on at some point in its life. :x

It makes a really nice pocket friendly EDC with a really sharp carbon steel blade! ::ds::
I am liking it!

Thanks for the complements guys.
It is just a rough user; sort of an experimental prototype if you will, for my personal use to look for issues in the process like the filing of the liner lock notch.

I do have my initials and the year (DRV '14) on the inside liner of the mark side.
I will eventually etch my name on the blade, next time I do a batch of knives.
I haven't done it yet because know I will be doing several other knives in a few days.

A great mod...I love that knife! Something about a slim EDC... Great work as always
