By the way, I always had wonder what CASE had marketed this 11-1/2L patterns as in regards to purpose. I looked at some old CASE catalogs (3 total) I have and from 59' to 74' and the CASE 11-1/2L was categorized/marketed as a "Hunting Knife" in that section of the catalog along with the 65 Hunter and the 50 Coke Bottle Hunter. In 2 catalogs, #68 and #69, it is listed in the "Hunting and Fishing Knives" section. In the #70 catalog, they seperated the hunting and fishing knives into 2 seperate sections. The 11-1/2L is in the hunting section of that catalog.

My favorite pattern but not sure if the blade was suited for skinning. You could skin with a sharp pen knife if you had to though. You sure could use it for close in/no gun hunting if needed, that is for sure, assuming you could catch your prey.

Have enjoyed looking at all you guys' beautiful Cheetahs. I first started collecting the smaller Case XX 1 1/2 Cheetah Cub and quickly moved into full size 11 1/2 Cheetahs, at one time boasting a collection numbering in the 100's of each pattern in every possible handle scale ever made scanning several decades. Then I hit on hard times and was forced to slowly sell off most of them (some of which look suspiciously like ones I see in some of your photos!). Fortunately, I was able to hang onto a few cherished pieces, but I'm telling ya, even to this day, all these years later, I miss those others like an arm or a leg...they were such a part of me. To show my appreciation for all your posts, I'm including some photos of a few that I still have for your viewing pleasure (knife porn as my wife calls it). Most of the Cheetahs I have now are newer (from the 21st century) because once I got back on my feet I started collecting again, but I will always have a special place in my heart for the models from 1970's when I first fell in love with them and started collecting.

Sorry for the delayed reply. I read this and meant to respond and got sidetracked. You know how that goes.
Some fine swing guards you have there. An addictive pattern for sure. I posted earlier that CASE actually marketed them as a "Hunting Knife" in the late 50s' to early 70s' catalogs I have.
One question on the 76' Razors Edge though...
Beautiful knife! I actually EDC almost every day just like it. Your file/pic comment mentions the knife has no model stamp but I can see fairly clearly in your last pic (and the second one) that it does have the pile side model stamp that I would expect, "5111-1/2LSSP". The small stamp stag Cheetahs and or 70's stag 5111-1/2LSSP have a pretty small model number stamp. Either way it is a beautiful knife!

I posted this one elsewhere but she sure fits here. A friend did some fine ivy file work on my 76' Razors Edge 5111-1/2LSSP that I EDC almost daily. Beautiful stag on this knife. The file work and bolster grooves added a definite touch of class in my opinion on an already stunning knife. Can't go wrong with carrying your favorite pattern that a buddy did some fine embellishment work on, in my opinion. A fine knife, that is for sure!

Also, two pics of a special knife. A verified 1971' 6111-1/2L from a friend as a gift. He pulled and replaced the guard to check for hidden dots obscured by the guard and found one. Eight were visible and another dot was revealed upon removal of the guard. A fine honest 71' example that means alot to me.

You are absolutely right. Boy, do I have egg on my face! I don't know what I was thinking (or drinking) when I made that comment...the model number is right there plain as day! I think my age is starting to play tricks on my eyesight and mock my sanity. Thanks for setting the record straight.

Thanks for understanding, Jerry. Just for kicks, I'm going to post some more photos of my Cheetah collection. Although my all-time number one preference is Stag, sometimes it's nice to have a little variety, too. I really like the way the Curly Green Oak appears wavy, almost as if it has finger grooves carved into it. And I also like the two-color blade etch on the Select Burmuda Green Cheetah and the contrast of the white circle XX shield against the deep red color on the Red Pine Trees Cheetah.

Very nice ones Guys. I personally only collect the pre 81' CASE 11-1/2Ls and Cheetahs (when they were first discontinued) as I am more fond of bone and stags and older CASE knives in general but those are some very beautiful examples with diverse scales you guys posted. Thanks for posting them.

I only have one beyond 81', the 2002' CCC Member Knife in Moss Bone. I just sent it out yesterday to get a file work job like the stag I posted up above.
You may have seen the posts recently for the knife auctions to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. The 2002' Swing Guard with the file work will be up for auction in a week or two when it comes back as well as a couple of file worked full size Copperlocks from the late 90s'.

Also, a member just sent me an email that he is donating a two knife serialized 1987' CASE 6111-1/2 set (no swing guards or locks on these) that will be auctioned in the near future.

Just wanted you all to be aware that a few nice CASE 11-1/2s will be on auction soon.

Q, you've got a really nice collection of Cheetah's going. You're right about that Curly Green Oak, it's beautiful!

Not being so much into the "newer" knives myself, I am certainly missing out in some great stuff. My meager knife budget usually goes to the pre-1970's knives and then there's nothing left for the newer ones. May have to change my thinking.

Jerry my friend, you continue to amaze me with the quality and diversity of your collection. Seems like no matter what knife is the subject of the thread, you've got em! I really enjoy seeing them, so keep em coming! When I grow up I want to be just like you!

Edit: j5109, your Cheetah collection is also notable. Some very nice ones indeed! I am especially partial to those with abalone scales.

This is what happenes when you store an Abalone (aka Big Abe) next to a MOP (aka Pretty Pearl)--They produce 3 Cubs: Baby Abe, Pearl Jr. and Goldie!

My 2 current carries EDC and I mean one or the other everyday are the last couple of pics. 77' Blue Scrill mod that Wayne did an excellent job on. My only ever mod. I like it ALOT but likely will not do another mod knife. CASE XX USA that I bought from Johnnie's widow after he passed. I really like this one and enjoy carrying it in memory of our fallen Brother. Has the early "small CASE XX USA" stamp that are observed on the era USA knives prior to the stamp dye change out.

A "No serial number" 77' Blue Scroll Engraved". Discussed here but certainly germane to this thread so here is a link...

Last pics are of the bone example extra 1 CASE XX USA factory error" that completed my CASE 11-1/2L sub collection from XX thru 81'. This is the only knife I bought last year and it was 10 or 11 months long prior to that one when i purchased one. Still need a green bone XX 6111-1/2 Swing Guard (rare as hens teeth) and some TESTED era examples but I achieved my goal with what I have at this point so I am happy.
