Is this a different Case XX 59LSS?
Yay, ME! I just joined and here's my first question. I just bought this Case XX, identified as a 59LSS. However, when looking at the Case factory photo of 59L, it doesn't exactly match. In the photos I'll attempt to download, you'll see: My thumb slot does not reach as close to the bolster as does the official photo; My 4 dots are not in a straight row; The bottom bolster logo is inverted when compared to the official photo and is not encircled. Any thoughts/guidance/tossed tomatoes would be enormously appreciated. By the way, I've been reading the forum for lots of months and enjoy all you offer! unkabob Oh yeah---any thoughts on its value?

Forgot to mention that the color is not perfect because images were done on a scanner.

Welcome to the forum. Glad you have been paticipating by watching the forum and now, your first post. Welcome again!
No expert here but it looks like you posted pics of a 1996' 2159 LSS with glazed finish stainless steel blades there. The model stamp does not include the "21" but I believe it probably has smooth black handles. Are the handles smooth black? Hard to tell from the scan as you said. Hard to tell but I believe your knife was referred to as the Hammerhead in the late 70's without the shark etch on yours. This line of knives was referred to as the "Shark Series" if I recall correctly. I think three in the series, the "Shark Tooth, Mako and Hammerhead". If you are referring to the "thumb slot" as the old finger groove in the blade tang, that would have been for an index finger to better grip the knife unless someone held the knife upside down. According to member Steve's book, the finger groove was eliminated in 1991'.
Not sure of the pics you say you are trying to download but sure sounds like the knife is older than the one you have. Hence the differences I mentioned including no encircling of the bottom bolster logo as you mentioned.
No expert, could be wrong but I hope it helps a bit.
Regards, Jerry

I don't know 'S' from apple butter about Case but I can certainly welcome you to AAPK. Glad to have you aboard.

Thanks for the "welcome!" Handles are indeed smooth black. When I compared mine to the shark series is when I noticed the differences. Sorry for any confusion on "trying to download." I suspected difficulty, but was able to download so easily, it was almost scary! Kudos for making it so easy.zp4ja wrote:Hello Bob,unkabob wrote:Yay, ME! I just joined and here's my first question. Many thanks! I love all the signatures. One of my favorites is on an email from a friend. It merely says, "Re-elect no one"
