Newbie here with a question for all Case Experts...

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Newbie here with a question for all Case Experts...

Post by barlowchiro »

I purchased a Case 6265 SAB pocket knife for my dad. It says "Case XX USA" on the bottom of the big blade, and "6265 SAB" on the bottom of the other blade.

Based on this information, I know it is a 1965-1969 production. It does have the hole in the bottom of the handle. Can anyone tell me the value of this knife? I looked on this website's valuation guide, but they didn't have a 1965-69 6265 SAB on there.

The knife with that pattern number, 6265 SAB, has quite a few variables, aside form condtion that can affect the value.

Yep, we need pictures.

Wayne my friend, well said! Exactly what I was just about to reply with.

Besides condition (which is a huge factor in value) that Wayne mentioned, many variables as he stated. Bill Boatman model, serrated skinner blade or not, bone or wood, XX frame or not, drilled or not (you answered that), etc.

Post some detailed pics as suggested that are clear from various angles/views so we can see what the hell we are dealing with and we will try to help. FYI, no offense intended but crappy pics are almost as good as none at all.

Welcome to the forum. Regards, Jerry

Here are some pictures of the knife.

I am not terribly concerned with value, as it is a gift for my Dad. His dad carried this exact knife for years, and I wanted to get this for him. It was hard to find a knife that didn't have any dots!!!

Here's a listing of SOLD 6265 SAB's from ebay. Look through and try to find comparable knives to yours, to get a ball park idea of current market value.

No expert here but this what I see and can't see. It is probably my eyes but few things are hard to tell for me.
Some of this assumes there are no dots and it is a USA. Put the blade at 12 o'clock (Half open) to verify. At that position you should be able to see dots, if any. Based on handle pin location, probably a USA (I think).

Not a Bill Boatman 6265.
Not a scarcer XX frame.
Hard to rate condition as it relates to possible blade wobble, blade snap, etc without knife in hand but certainly does not look like a used up example. Nice condition.

Can't figure out what the handle material is based on the pic and the jigging looks real odd to me. Maybe my eyes and the pics. I am thinking it is probably pakkawood, not sure.

It would have to be Wood Handles so around $125.00 if Mint condition.

Good catch, I believe you are correct based on the all the variables related to these knives as mentioned, based on what I see in the books. Assuming a USA knife, according to the books (unless I missed something again), looks if if no bone 6265 was made in the USA (not stamp but frame) frame. Trader's Vol 9 says 100 bucks mint. Handle material aside, jigging still look odd to me.

Man, all this talk about 6265 and looking at my few examples, I think my XX 6265 EDC will be in the pocket tomorrow.

Thanks for all of the information guys!!

It is a "Case XX USA" with no dots, I think that puts it as a 1965-69 model. The handle is a wood material. There is not blade wobble at all, very very tight knife.

I paid slightly more than $125, but to me it was worth it! Like I said it is for my Dad to replace the one that his dad carried for years and years.

Doesn't matter if you paid a few extra bucks for it. At the end of the day, as long as you are happy with (I'm sure your Dad will be), that is all that matters. What a special gift!
