Man I hate that for ya. That stinks.
But truth be told, I was born in '76 and there are days I think I'm breaking apart too!

had a friend who had a set had been displayed open never closed. upon inspection one had a broke back spring. knife had not been out of the display. one blade had weak snap and after looking it over had a very fine crack in the back spring..

Is there any chance Case can replace them for you? I would be terribly disappointed to have such beautiful knives ruined like that. OH

Likely stored or displayed with the blades partially, not fully open. Partially open would maintain pressure on the spring causing it to become weak. Fully open on a knife with proper integrity would not stress the springs, In my opinion.

Wow thats awful. In my experience you will very rarely see Case pocket knives of that era with broken backsprings. I believe that Case always considers a broken backpsring to be a warranty issue. However due to changes in tooling they may not be able to replace the backsprings, but if not they will replace each knife with the most similar stag handled knife that they currently make. At least that has been my experience.
