The world as we know it is coming to an end. Dogs living with cats, Democrats voting with Republicans... ::uc:: The Chicago Cubs announced this week, they will have an official mascot for the first time in modern history. Meet "Clark The Cub". ::facepalm::

It just ain't right folks.

You laugh Cutty but the Cubs have always been pure. Not stained by World Series wins, hardly tarnished by Division championships and National League pennants and no stigma of some pervert dressed in an oversized cartoon character costume, running around the stadium making a fool of him (or her) self. We don't need no stinking World Series to define us. We have our traditions and now even those are being taken away from us. What's next? Pull down the scoreboard for a jumbotron? Tear out the bleachers? Move out of Wrigley Field? ::teary_eyes::

Remembering back to my boy-hood days of collecting baseball cards, I thought that the Cubs cards did have a bear cub on them, just not as cartoony as this one.

The bear cub, in one form or another, has been around as a logo for a small forever but they've never had a live, walking around, dressed up as a cartoon mascot. You know, like Bernie Brewer at Milwaukee, Fredbird at St. Louis, Gapper at Cincinnati or Homer down in Atlanta.

I don't believe in that goat business Robert. At the turn of the 20th century, the block bounded by Clark, Addison, Waveland, and Sheffield streets was home to the Chicago Lutheran Theological Seminary. That of couse is the spot upon which Wrigley Field was built. God don't take kindly to non-sectarian use of his property. The results over the past hundred + years speak for themselves.
