Re: Pictures of Miscellaneous Stuff & Things
In the summer of 1972, I traded my 1970 4-4-2 for a 1972 Monte Carlo (better gas mileage). Went from 10-12 mpg to 16-18 mpg. Big whoop. At least I could burn regular.
I see the similarity dogg. I'm sure it comes from Holden being a subsidiary of General Motors.
Edit: BTW, Ken. Australia didn't have a muscle car phase???????

The farriers retirement fund. I've seen one of those at a livestock yard that was nearly 20 feet tall. Unbelievable. I really wish I'd had a camera.

That's pretty cool--Ronnie Finch does the same type of thing but uses silver wear I've been to his shop and he has silver wear stashed every where he makes all kinds of different sculptures with the stuff he's also got a thing for saving old hand crank meat grinders

Hi Jerry,
Our muscle car phase started in 1967 with a Chrysler 4 door like you Barracuda 273ci.
Then Ford (Falcon) came with a 4 speed 289 – then 351 Winsor and later a 351 Cleveland.
GM (Holden) started off with a 307, and then a 270hp 327ci then a 300hp 350 from the USA.
Chrysler also sold a big six cylinder (Valiant) with 4 speed gear box and three double chock Webers carburettors.
By 1971 Ford had a 351HO, arguably the fastest 4 door car in the world. (I disagree) the Mercedes Benz 6.3 litre was the fastest 4 door car back then; and it had brakes.
To-day we have the fastest pick-up in the world – powered by a 5.7 litre USA Chevy (168 MPH)

Re: Pictures of Miscellaneous Stuff & Things
I don't see any big blocks there, 409s 427s, 454s, 455s, 460s. The 3xx ci motors were good engines and fast but what about "more is better"? Nothing like the rumble of a biggun with a cam so tall it could barely idle.
My 442 -- 455cu in, 4-bbl rochester, 10.50 CR, 365 hp@5000rpm, 500 ft/lbs torque@3200rpm -- 3.42 posi-traction hooked through a Turbo-Hydro 400 with a Hurst Dual-Gate between the seats. Variable power steering and power brakes. It would peg the speedometer on top end.
Running in the 'G' Stock Automatic (G/SA) class, my best time on the Byron Drag Strip was 14.44 sec @ 98.xx mph. (I saved the time slip) My son broke the trophy and I got tired of hauling it around so it's long gone.
Today's cars run a V-6 and make that 442 look like a 4000 lb slug chained to a steel post set in concrete.

I sincerely hope they made those out of cheap eastern imports and not good quality vintage American made wrences from companies that have gone out of business.
If you think a pile of spanners (wrenches) is impressive I'll have to get one of my vice pile. It's only about 4 years old so still small at only 3 feet tall and 3 feet wide.

I recently got a new scanner, so I'm scanning some of my old pictures. This one is one I took in the 1990s. Kids playing in Brazil.

Those little fellers are talented. I've had ALMOST as much fun with their picture this week as I did playing soccer with them and their little flat soccer ball.

glennbad, the bottom hammer is very similar to one that I made in metal shop in highschool in 1966. I use it quite often and is really handy. ftd
