Re: Let's talk appaloosa bone knives.
At one time my extensive collection of Case Appaloosa bone handled knives numbered these two penknives; but, having given one to my brother, I am down to the 1980 half whittler. They certainly appeal to me, but having so many rabbits to run has caused me to leave them alone for the time being. OH
Deep in the guts of most men is buried the involuntary response to the hunter's horn, a prickle of the nape hairs, an acceleration of the pulse, an atavistic memory of his fathers, who killed first with stone, and then with club...Robert Ruark

Great knives OH.
That 033 is very nice. They are made a lot different than the1979 and back,if you look at the 2 side by side. They beefed up the frame in around 1980.The 08 is very hard to find in SS,I can see yours is also cv ,I can't find it in SS.I'm not sure but they did drop one pattern in 1980 that may have been it,would you know OH?
Both are great little knives and thanks for posting OH.
BTW The SR62027 was the patterns they dropped in 1980,I don't think it was ever made with SS blades and shield.

Great looking knives. I have been picking these up myself when I find one that catches my eye. A question if anyone knows. Did Case make a doctors knife in the appalossa? I have one in the satin rose, 1980 I believe.

In short yes,but I can't remember the details. One of this guys will be able to tell us the info.I know it was a special run,it was not one of the 5 original appalosa stock patterns.

Very nice photos shown in here. I think after the vintage tested era green bone or burnt stag, there is no finer looking handle material than the 80's appaloosa bone.

How apropos. I'm looking for something for my Sis. She is an equestrian, and a great Appaloosa lover.
That elephant toenail is outstanding.

I may have gave you the wrong info on that. I can only finde that they made the doctors knife in Satin Rose so I may be wrong about it in appaloosa.DRM60 wrote:Great looking knives. 1981 NKCA Smooth Rose Bone Toothpick. IIRC, these weren't actually club knives, but were a special run, sold to raise funds for the NKCA museum.

Thanks Phillip, you'll be the first to know!
They're not an overly expensive knife, i've seen a few sell on Ebay for less then $50.

Re: Let's talk appaloosa bone knives.
KT, I have a few additions for your thread.
First was an SR6220 I found at an old hardware store that was closing.
No knife boxes just a drawer full of knives each wrapped in tissue.
unwrapped & rewrapped 12-20 before finding the SR6220.
Wish I'd gotten more than 1 more than once. Boss at work
has Bday same day as me so I gave that SR6220 to him as Bday gift.
His eyes lit up when he saw it and I truly believe he was surprised.
He still has it in a display w/his black powder guns and a few other knives.
Took me about 20 yrs to finally replace it w/another SR6220.
Meantime did find some appleLucy bone along the way.
