I shop at a grocery with four 60' aisles...
Traffic jam is 4 cars and a sheep....
Stars brighter than street lights...
NOT uncommon to see a guy downtown
riding a horse with a goat on a leash..
Couldnt return to those jungles
for ANY AMNT of $$$$$$$..
We're those people that Obama warned em about.
Clinging to our Bibles n guns.....
Let's go to LUCKENBACH **smiles

Ohhh, don't I know it. For me, it's a toss up between L.A. and NYC which is worse. In L.A. you can drive forever at two miles an hour and never get out of the city. In NYC all those people stacked one on top of the other makes me nauseous. I live in a city of 150K but I have a small town mentality.Quick Steel wrote:I live about 50 miles east of LA. You're right, MrB. That's the best.

MrBlister, that's a great description of a place most of us would like to live near. 40 years ago our county seat had 3 red lights and a caution light. We've made progress, we now have 3 more red lights and traffic jams on a regular basis, too much progress for this old man! So far we can still see the same stars shining over the Florida panhandle that y'all see over Texas. Treefarmer

The County seat here (Rockford, AL) has a four-way stop. There is only one red light in the entire county (Goodwater). And only one RR-crossing gate. It's in the middle of nowhere!

No stop lights, no crosswalks, and the one and only buisiness in town is a country store with 4-15 foot aisles, and 2 gas pumps that date to the 1950's. (the same building also houses our post office) A traffic jam is 2 people walking down the middle of the only highway that runs through here, or 1 car crossing either of the 2 single lane bridges across the creek. And to top it all off, the highway dead ends at the lake from dusk to dawn. A ferry runs during daylight hours only. After dark, the only way in or out is a 25 mile drive through Mark Twain National Forest. Population within the boundries of "town" after the store closes is 4. Ranching/farming, along with hunting, fishing and camping are the primary industries.
With rural cooperative electric, a well for fresh water, septic for sewer, burning wood for heat and $10 a month for trash service, our utilities average about $75 a month. Not to mention, that most years we get a rebate check back from the coop for about $125.
Boy, do I miss living in the city.........................................NOT!!!!

Of coarse, living in the middle of nowhere can have it's bad points too! While cleaning out my shop this afternoon, I found this little viper curled up behind a trashcan.
Copperheads are common to the area, but it's rare to find one tryin' to homestead a frequently used building. Conservation says, "capture and relocate".
Not on my watch! He short struck once and recoiled, unfortunately for him there was an old table leg within reach. He didn't get a second chance. Now he's a good copperhead.

Yes sir Blue, he shoulda stayed out in the woods where he belonged. I'm trying to decide if I want to go to the trouble of skinnin' and stretchin' him. He'd actually make a pretty cool sheath or two. Lotta work though and they're a nasty snake to mess with.

Re: Pictures of Miscellaneous Stuff & Things
I grew up in the mountains of Southern Oregon. We had rattlers down there.
At least rattlers warn you before they strike and they aren't always in a bad mood.
I understand those copperheads come preset in the pissed-off mode when they are in a good mood!
I think he would make a nice sheath.
I have a tanned cobra skin from a friend who was in India that I may end on putting on a sheath.
I wanted to get a second one and have a pair of cowboy boots made with the hood of the snake on the top part of the boot, but India don't allow them to be exported anymore. It will probably end up on a sheath.

Cobra skin would make for a really cool sheath, Dale!!
We have have 3 or 4 varieties of rattlesnakes here, all of which I'd rather tangle with barefoot before I would a copperhead while dressed in boots and chaps. They're only moderately aggresive, but they do have a tendancy to strike (without warning) first and ask questions later. They also lean toward standing their ground more then most snakes. I've never had one yet run from a fight. The only choice they really give ya is to either kill 'em or give 'em a wide birth. I don't care what conservation says, if I find one on the property, he gets no sympathy! The only place he's gonna get relocated to, is the stretchin' board or the garbage can. The trashman just loves it when I do that.

Re: Pictures of Miscellaneous Stuff & Things
I don't have a cool pic to post here. But our little town has a four way stop and a railroad crossing. A decent size Grocery Store and a Stand Alone Post Office.
The County seat had only a four way but then got civilized with a stoplight.
They have a WAY better looking library than we do.....
