A new Boker line ?

I just got this knife from an ebay seller a few days ago. I inquired before buying it and was assured it was made in Germany.

It doesn't have anything on the tang stamp to indicate it's country of origin, although the shield does say "Germany".

Anyone have any info on this line of knives?

My best guess is it was "assembled" in Germany - probably from outsourced parts.
The scale jigging on most of those new "Traditional Series" knives look like they were done by the same folks who make the Magnums and Boker Plus. you know what that means.

You'll notice they don't have Solingen stamped on them anywhere - I'm guessin' there's a law about that somewheres...

Monk you nailed it. In fact that's the seller I got mine from for a "best offer" price of $26 plus shipping.

Blue, I too wonder if there's not some Asian connection on these knives. What does not seem to add up is that the assembly of the knife requires a fair amount of hands on labor and it just doesn't make sense that they would have the parts stamped out in China and then shipped back to Germany for assembly. Where would the cost savings be in doing that? I could see if it were done just the opposite, creating the parts in Germany then sending them to China for assembly by low wage workers.

By the way, the pins on the pile side are slightly proud, just enough to be felt when you run your finger tips over the handle, and there's a minor but visable grind mark left in the bone. I've not seen that sort of thing in any of the Solingen, Germany marked Bokers I own.

i bought 4 of them and had some small issues with them and contacted Boker and below is the response,I did contact the wholesaler because they were advertising country of origin as Germany and forwarded the below ,they refunded my money

Which can mean anything from putting the final polish on the knife to giving it a wipe down just before it's put in the box. Pardon my cynicism.

I called and talked with Boker USA today. They confirmed what has allready been said in this thread. He told me that the Tang Stamp was what was important and if it says Solingen, its a purely German knife. I guess the shield is not always the clue. The Appaloosa series is an example.
