ANOTHER KNIFE SHOW

Just a reminder for the Parker knife show at the Sevierville Events Center in Sevierville,Tn. on June 14 , 15 , & 16 . This show has been "dwindling" the last couple of years . Please try to attend and give it a "boost" . There should be many good buys available (especially under the RIDGEWOOD CUTLERY sign) ! Copy this post and bring it with you . After we have made our "best deal" , present a copy of this post and I will give you an additional $5 off to help defray the parking or admission cost !

The collection of folding knives seems to be undergoing a real transition at the current time. The Parker show is 'dwindling' and I understand that there is a possibility that the Oregon show may not take place again as Dennis and Ellayne have retired. They have put this show on for the Oregon Knife Collectors Club for many, many years. It is, or has been, the best run show I have seen. For several years now it has been rumored that Buzz Parker will stop producing the Tennessee show.
This saddens me as these two shows are without a doubt the two best shows in America, at least to me they are.
The younger generation seems to favor other than antique or 'old' knives. They seem to move towards tacticals and customs. Many of those that promoted our hobby are now gone.
Didn't mean to get so morose. Just some scattered thoughts about this passtime that I love so much.

Ray , I guess that we have to face it ! We are part of a dying breed ! You are right on with your diagnosis -- I bought a huge cache of tactical knives last Sept . in ignorance of their value , which turned out to be a good thing since I was very cautious about what I paid because of my ignorance . My sales boomed until I ran low on the tacticals ! I hope that you have a safe trip to Tn. and I look forward to seeing you there .

Bob,
I guess I will be counted amoung the dwindling this time. I usually just go to the winter show and that will be the case this time. I hope you have a great show and may some guy come in with all the old Remington Bullets in mint condition and may he refuse to take less than $100 each for them.

Just as a follow up to my whining post made earlier today, I have been advised by Orvet (Dale Vincent) that the Oregon Knife Collectors Club has been successful in replacing the retiring director who is responsible for putting on the show. This is really good news for those of us who really enjoy the fine show. It means the show has a new lease on life.

This was the last major knife show that I attended. I bought table and set up, at the end of the day two guys showed up at my table and gave me a sheet of paper. I had to list the knives sold and the amount paid for them.They charge you the state tax % on the item.Let's say you sell a knife for a $100 and you have $80 invested. The profit on that item was about 12.50. Do you see where I'm coming from? Or is it this way every where? But that was a few years back maybe things have changed?

This happens at Gun and Knife shows occasionally. I always wonder what would happen if a seller refused to cooperate???

Tennesssee Department of Revenue, they do that at Arts & Crafts, Yards Sales, just about everything.......Death and Taxes. I think it is running around 10% now, but you can get around it if you file federal. Laws change, talk with your CPA or Tax attorney to confirm.
On the Free side; They are having "Tunes & Tales" in Gatlinburg right up the road this week also. Lots of acoustic street music and bluegrass if that is your thing. We like it on the outskirts in a hole in the wall joint.
A lot of the folks talk down about about the old place and the Grand being dirty and all.......but I am old school and we/I never stayed at the Grand, even if I had too!
It just ain't the same at this new place.......
I guess Voyles will have an auction Friday night, I may hit that, if so.
