Re: Pictures of Miscellaneous Stuff & Things
Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in awhile. I see a lot of Art Deco stuff go over here for silly money. I didn't realize you could try to buy it and get a look at the price though. Figured it had to go somewhere around $500 though.
I measure my collection by the ton.

Re: Pictures of Miscellaneous Stuff & Things
It might be a piece of art deco and have nothing to do with Mobil Oil.
Afterall, there are just so many ways to pose a rearing or flying Pegasus.
If it did have anything to do with Mobil, might there have been a glass insert with printed advertising in the bottom, such as the name and address of a local Mobil service station?
Beautiful piece, with value, regardless of its provenance.
Great find.
The one Robert ID'd on the net appears to have a different brushed finish. If Bill's is truly solid bronze, it's worth more than the other.

One of these days I'll build a lamp with them. The sockets are Monowatts and the bulbs are Edison's from the 1920's -

Tell us about the hand held vise with the turned wooden handle.

It's an ice axe, the pick side was for dragging the slab back to shore.Iron Hoarder wrote:I love the arbor press and the long bladed axe.Nice haul.
The arbor is a Greenerd and perfect size for bench use. Now that the weather is warming up again I am going to paint it up.

I have to dig it out but I am pretty sure it is a Starrett. I have a few of them and use them for filing small parts.RobesonsRme.com wrote:Tell us about the hand held vise with the turned wooden handle.

That's a fine lookin' cleaver in your haul. Is that a little anvil between the cleaver and the bevel square? Treefarmer

Re: Pictures of Miscellaneous Stuff & Things
My latest flea market haul from Sunday morning. Actually three flea markets and a small antiques show I managed to hit in 5 hours. Due to exhaustion of my allowance I had to skip a load of stuff I would have otherwise taken home. I hate having to be picky.

Iron Hoarder, I love that flywheel powered drill press. What a neat and imminently useful old tool.

Re: Pictures of Miscellaneous Stuff & Things
I was hoping some one could tell me about those clamps. I bought them because I'd never seen any like them. The just have an L shaped pin with a flattened short leg and they pull up against a small flat spot. Once the wife goes back to work next week I'll look at the details cast on them up and ask the other local tool guys what they are. I just figured they might be useful for knife work or something. There used to be a lot of aircraft and military work done around here so I find some specialized stuff sometimes.
On another note that pry bar on top of the tool box (hiding under the clamps)is a Stanley/Atha Made in the USA. I love old pry bars made from tool steel instead of cheap India/Mexican/Pakistan/china made ones from melted down ships.

Re: Pictures of Miscellaneous Stuff & Things
I have one of those without a handle. It was in my grandfathers lathe tools. I don't know what it was made for, but it is very handy at times. It had a little gearbox to turn each screw simultaneously, and stays nice and parralell, and doesn't try to walk. It was made by the Goodell Pratt Co.
