If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

Here's another lighter for ya Willie, same principle, just all put together in a package. Called a "Fox Hole Lighter" made by Imco during WWII. I've got two of these new in the box. Patent No. 407,068. The little ball on the end of the chain was used to snuff out the smoldering end of the wick by blocking off oxygen.

I am not sure if it is bone or ivory. It is hard to tell on this one. ::shrug::
Very cool Dale, my wife has a couple pairs of antique shoes those were used for.

I have a lighter similar to Tom’s & Willie’s.

In the 1980s a guy I knew went to France and brought me a souvenir. Since he worked for me in a pipe & cigar he brought a me lighter. He said it was their equitant of a Bic disposable lighter. They were just a few Francs and they work well to light Gauloises or Gitanes, (very strong French cigarettes).

You pull up the white cap, which pulls out the wick. Then strike the flint, blow on the wick to get it glowing good and light your cigarette. Pull down on the wick and the cap reseats itself smothering the burning wick.

Simple, cheap and effective, and if you are smoking a Gitanes or Gaulioses you don’t even taste the burning rope, (you can’t taste anything through the Gauloises or Gitanes). ::uc::

If that tape had a plumb bob on the end of it, it would be called a "thief" or at least that's what all the pumpers I knew called 'em.

A "thief" is used to measure the qty of oil or water in a tank or tank battery (more than one tank) at an oil well site.

How it got that name is a mystery to me.

Lufkin doesn't make 'em like that anymore.

L.S. Starret does and they ain't cheap.

Wrigley Field 2008. Took my granddaughter and my cousin's grandson. Didn't have a real camera with me so I had to use the camera in my phone. (Yes, the Cub's lost. How did you guess?)

I did a lot of traveling for this company I worked for in the late '90s - early 2000. At some point I got in the habit of picking up a refrigerator magnet during each trip and that habit carried over into vacations. I don't have one from every place I've been but it's a start.

The best part was spending the day with my granddaughter. She's the apple of my eye.
