Basically a scanner is a big camera with a preset focal length. The amount of light is controlled by the light source and by covering the item with the top cover.woseyjales wrote:I haven't tried that technique yet.

Theoretically, you could probably use it as you describe if you could figure out a way to control the focus and control the amount of light entering the lens.
There is the stability issue…....you need a big guy to hold it very steady.
Then there is always that pesky cord to deal with……………
