What an interesting little device. What do you suppose it's purpose might be? (besides just being a vise) I wonder if it's not more of a screw clamp.

jewelers use them a lot...sometimes bending over a large, or small, bench mounted vice is tedious.

The hand vises are handy items!
I use one to hold backsprings while I am doing filework on them.

Sheetmetal or "Duckbill" type vise grips work great for holding springs while doing filework too.

My buddy and I went over to his daughters house last week to take care of a couple of "issues" and I drug home two more things I don't need. He's been trying to get me to take the truck seat for some time now and I was standing strong until I got this brainiac idea to sell the thing on eBay. It's a brand new seat but it had been sitting out in the barn for a couple of years. I brought it home, cleaned it up and took some pictures, then called Gra-Mag and was told it's a 3/4 seat for an International 'A' cab (he said it's something like a Ford F650 or F750). To me, it looks like it would make a good second or third seat for a van.

I also carted home this little 5" iron skillet. I just thought it was kinda neat.

He also tried to get me to load up a box full of harness pieces & parts but I just couldn't bring myself to put that in the truck.

The revolver is a Smith & Wesson model 66. (Out of production) .357 caliber. I put synthetic ivory stocks on it.

I believe you are right; its a SS version of the 19. But they kicked the .357 up to a larger/stronger frame. I don't know the model number off hand. In the days of police revolvers officers with the .357 were told to train and practice with .38 special ammo. Less strain on the K frame. Then they would carry .357 on duty.

I don't know anything about the strain on the frame but I can tell you, I have a Mod. 19 that's much more accurate with regular .38s and .357s than it ever was with plus-P ammunition. I doubt that has anything to do with anything but it popped into my mind and came out my fingers.

Here is a form or anvil for shoes, not sure what it is called, I picked up somewhere, but not sure where. It is used by cobblers to repair shoes or make shoes I guess.

If you have any info about it or what it is I would like to know more about it.

I don't know how much .357 you shoot, but if you do considerable shooting sometimes check beneath the top strap over the bore and around the cylinder generally. You'll be looking for any developing cracks or fractures.

The design does have good accuracy, I agree. Never cared for +P fodder myself. But I have a Model 14 S & W with a 6 in. barrel. Its called the Target Master and indeed it is the most accurate revolver I have fired. It really deserves a home with someone who is a more capable shot. But in due course it will go to a nephew.

It's called a Last, not an Anvil, it is used in both making shoes and repairing them in the cobbling trade.

Yours looks to have been made around 1900-1930`s
