Rick Hinderer 3 inch XM-18

Post by TKC »

Today FedEx delievered my Rick Hinderer 3 inch XM-18, in bright blue. This is an amazing knife. I had a 3 1/2 inch XM-18, that I sold to get another custom. I have had an XM-18 on order with Rick, and THAT XM-18 will arrive in a couple of weeks. I was snooping some sites, I was on Blue Line Gear, and saw the Hinderer, and HAD to get it. I have been a fan of Rick Hinderer's work for a very long time. And I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Rick at Blade!! Also, if you get Blade magazine, the XM-18 is on the cover, and there is a great article on page 10 of Blade. I will be taking pix in the next few days!! I wanted to share my excitement with you guys!! Here is a link to Rick's site: http://www.rickhindererknives.com/

Very nice TKC, I really like his Spanto blade. I saw it in Blade Magazine and he does a real nice job. Now it is one of the hottest knives out there and he is really backed up with work! He put together a really nice pakage on that XM-18. Thanks for sharing! ::tu:: ::tu::

Yeah, I have had this on order with Rick since Blade '06. I had him wait for awhile. I will have the one I ordered here soon! The one that I ordered is a cranberry G-10, with a 3 inch blade of Duratech 20 CV. I will also post info on the Duratech 20 CV that Rick is now using.

DuraTech 20CV is a highly wear resistant, powder metallurgy stainless tool steel. The steel containes a large volume of extremely hard vanadium carbides, wich provide excellent wear resistance. DuraTech 20CV contains the highest amount of chromium of any high-vanadium stainless steel currently available. The chromium-rich matrix provides outstanding corrosion resistance. DuraTech 20CV is a versatile stainless tool steel with a unique combination of high wear resistance, high corrosion resistance, good impact toughness, and excellent polishability. This combination of properties is the result of the fine grain size, small carbides, and superior cleanliness of the powder metallurgy (PM) microstructure. DuraTech 20CV excels in applications, which require a combination of high wear resisatance. The unique combinations of properties makes DuraTech 20CV an excellent steel for plastic injection feed screws, barrel liners, screw tips, and mold cavities, especially for plastic resins which contain abrasive fillers. Other applications inlcude food processing equipement, pelletizer knives, granulator knives, and high-performance custom knives.

Information Provided by Timken Latrobe Steel.
