Here's an old postal lock I got years back from an old PO in Worcester. It had no key with it. I actually had two of them, so I did an autopsy on the worst of the two, and ground a key from an old carbon knife blade.

My Grand-Dad had one of those only it was foot operated. Big ole sandstone wheel that must have been (as best memory serves me) about 2 1/2' - 3' in diameter.

Paul, it looks good now, but you should see it in it's winter coat.
It makes for a beautiful scene, if you sit quiet enough you can hear the snow pile up. ::nod::

FRJ, it was only a tough 9 miles because we had to wait for a school tour to pass us, and we had to have the bike back in an hour, so we went like crazy instead of enjoying ourselves on a nice ride. ::dang::

TJ, it's Squatch country and a half.
Thats our bear huntin' woods, my Dad got one out of there a few years back. ::tu::

I love it up there. :)

I wanted to show my most beautiful fish hooks.......yes, beautiful.

Personally, I wish this were the only way we could buy fish hooks. No barbs and you would have to learn to tie a snell.
It's easy.

Nice miters, Joe. How did you secure the joints? Biscuits, pocket screws, something else??

Thanks, Jerry.
I had to go look at it and see how I did do it. I did that about 6 or 7 years ago.
I think between the inlay and the inside of the frame I put in a biscuit. At the outside of inlay near the corner I pre drilled and put in two finish nails, probably of different length. Nailed at top and bottom, not on side. I glued it of course.

I thought I remembered using pocket screws on this one but after looking at it again, I see I used biscuits.

Good job Bob. That's a nice stain job you put on it.

Though it makes a joint that's hell for stout, working with dowels always seemed rather tedious to me. Was it a PITA doing it that way?

The frame was made from scraps. The frame was intended to be rustic and stained to match the frames in the picture.

My frame was made from cull Phillipine mahogany moulding . All that I had to do was rabbet the back edge then mitre and bore . It wasn't too much of a PITA as long as I remembered to measure twice and cut once . No staining was necessary . I just rubbed it down with 3 coats of linseed oil .
