Will somebody puleeeze tell me what this thing is. I thank you in advance cuz I know at least one of you will know. It's all aluminum except for a small, steel single edge blade and is about 3&3/4" long...

You're in luck today. I've used one of those many times. It's a hand-held tensioning and cutting tool for fiber or plastic strapping that goes around boxes. You get one when you buy a kit. See in the picture, there's one laying down in front of the box. (red circle) Use it by making a loop in the strapping material, insert the "spike" nearest the handle through the loop, lift the handle so the bottom "spike" presses down on both layers of strapping and pull away from the strapping buckle. Buckles come in wire and plastic.

This is another tool to do the same thing except it's slightly easier to use. The methods of usage shown here are incorrect. Correct usage is put strap around the box and insert ends around the buckle as shown above. Insert the strap that goes around the box in the bottom jaws, rock toward the strap buckle, insert the loose end in the top jaws, squeeze the plier handles to clamp down on the strap and rock the pliers back away from the strap buckle. It's best to hold down on the opposite side of the strap clamp so the strap doesn't slide around the box. I'm not a tech writer so I'm sure those instructions are not real clear but if you could see it done, you'd get it in an instant.

Jerryd, thank you very much. I picked this up at a yard sale about a year ago and couldn't find out what in the world it is. Should have gone to the "source" first thing. There's a lot of knowledgable Folks on this site.

These are some of my Gas and Oil signs from the 1920s and 1950s. I sold the Golden Fleece oil bottle of over $500 on eBay last year. The Bullets, I found many years ago and paid $10 for it.
These signs are all Mint and would sell on eBay for $500-$1000 each, I paid less less then $100 for them 15 years ago...some things we put away are go. Note I'm not showing all the things I have keeped for 20 years that would not sell for $1 Ken

Thank you Ken! It's going to be nice to have the extra money every month. I started off with a big old 3 unit rental place 25 years ago and traded up when I built up some equity.

Very nice signs. I had a chance to get one of the enamel Mobil Gas Pegasus signs out of a washed out dump one time but someone beat me to it. I was working and couldn't stop and by the time I came back it was gone. It was large, probably four feet across, the size that would hang on a post in front of a "service station". The picture is one off the internet as an example.

Perry has some really nice vintage advertising clocks that I hope he'll post.

Jerry, all of my signs are enamel. They have become very collectible over here.
Vacuun,Plume and Gargoyle, where some of the names use in the 1920s and 1930s by Mobil in Australia - Mobil and Mobilgas were also used.
Golden Fleece and Ampol where both was Australian companys, both closed down over 30 years ago. Ken.

Great stuff Iron Hoarder! What is the tool in the last picture? I've considered collecting old oil cans. I've got a few nice ones.

Here is a pair of NOS 9 1/4 inch automobile headlight lenses marked Macbeth Evans Glass Company Pittsburgh PA. Patent date December 8, 1914. They were in my grand father's shed, then my father's garage now in my basement. You never know when you might need something like this.

The red Good-All reel is designed to be put on a fly rod and used as a spincast reel with light line. It's well made. To cast you back the handles off, which takes it "out of gear".

Flooding in the Great Midwest was almost epidemic this year. Although it didn't make the national news, Southeastern Illinois was especially hard hit. I suppose it was only a local item because it was mostly farm land and a catastrophe only to those effected.

This is the small town on the banks of the Little Wabash River where my Grand-Dad lived when he was still alive. The town goes by two names. He called it Concord but on the maps it's called Emma.

Just up the road from Concord/Emma in Carmi, the county seat for White County and also on the banks of the Little Wabash, someone snapped this picture. In the background, you can see the flood water, or as they call it down there "the back-water".

Woah Jerry, that looks serious. On a lighter note, this is what I picked up at the Flea Market here in Nashville yesterday. Ideal made Radio Bank from the 40s era. I gave 20 bucks for it, I have lots of Bakelite radios from that era so I thought it would fit right into the collection.
