I checked their web site and looked at the knife (since I don't have it) and looked at the scales they have. I think they are machined or laser cut. It would be hard to make those by hand.
I have made a lot of knives and re-handled a lot more, but I would hate to try these without the machinery & know how to use it, (neither of which I possess).
Benchmade tends to be high-tech in the manufacturing process of their knives. I haven't been in their factory since they moved up to Oregon City. I was in the factory when it was still out in Clackamas, about 10-12 years ago. At that time I couldn't believe the changes from the early days when they were just starting out. Their knives are now made with such precision that it would take an accomplished machinist to make a lot of the parts for them, IMO.
Les de Asis (the owner) is a class act and a genuine nice guy. From what I have heard, Benchmade is a great place to work.
