Boker "Tang Stamp Series"

Post by ddixon »

Does anybody have a Boker catalog ('04 or '05 maybe?) that lists the "Tang Stamp Series" knives, I was wanting to know how many different knives are in the series. I've seen twelve different ones for sale here and there...are there more? Also, what do the different dates on the left shield signify? I've seen three different years: 1848, 1900, and 1907. ::shrug::

Hey ddixon,
I've only seen 10 so far. I don't own any of these, but you've got me thinkin'.
Here's what I've seen. All of these I THINK may have come in Red Bone, Green Bone, and Stag.
I, like you, have only seen the years 1848, 1900, , 1907. Maybe these are the years that the logo had major changes, although if you look at the collection of tree logos on Hawke's site, then there ahould have also been an 1887 and 1915...

200 Canoe - 1907 shield
280 Whittler - 1848 shield
493 Barlow - 1907 shield
495 Razor Barlow
2525 Trapper - 1848 shield
5464 Congress - 1907 shield
5474 Congress
7474 Stockman - 1907 shield
70113 Congress
? Copperhead

Here's a link to the 2005 Catalog. I don't see the Tang Stamp Series in it. They must have come out in 2006.

speaking of tang stamp series, check this one out from 1981. Look at the factory paperwork. Calls this knife "The Collector", and says it is number ten in the series...

I think you found most if not all the patterns I found, Duncan plus maybe one or two more. I didn't know about the 495 Barlow with razor, or the Copperhead. One that isn't on your list is a 9885 Stockman, which comes with both square and rounded bolsters. The square bolstered 9885 has 1848 shield, and the rounded has 1900 shield. I think Boker must use the same number for several variants of each pattern or something. I have also seen the 70113 Congress with both regular (1907 shield) and stepped bolsters (1900 shield).

Never seen that one called "The Collector" before. I like it. ::drool::

Cool Phil! That's makes one think there may be an 1887 out there somewhere too.

Hello all,
The tang stamp series never appeared in our catalog. They were a special series available only to Smoky Mountain Knifeworks. I imagine they would have all the information on how many, and what years were represented.

Terry, thanks for that info. Very helpful.

Phil, that's interesting. I think Blue's theory may be right based on your shield date. When I get time I'm going to ask SMKW about the series. I'll post back here with anything I learn.

Gundoger, thanks for the pictures and info. I've been thinking about maybe trying to collect the TS series in red bone. Seeing your collection makes me want to give it a shot.

There are no numbers on the knife, the boxes are marked the same. BK 7474 ST
I have one box that is marked "2525 BBSM for SMKW" witch is line with what Terry said about them being made for SMKW.
Another box is marked "2626 HPC Off the Wall", I read somewhere that the "Off the Wall" referred to the salesman's sample board. Not sure about that. I don't know what the "BBSM" or the "HPC" stands for.

rangerbluedog,it very well could be. I am not all that familiar with Boker's pattern number's. I know that the regular Stockman came in a box labeled ""BK 7474 ST" and it was supposed to be "NIB". So I assumed that the other stockman came in the other 7474 box. I do remember a couple of seller's saying "not in original box",that could be the case here. I also have two box's that the label has been peeled off. I was planing on using the list you posted and a catalog to try and match everything up as it seams things got mixed up. Thank you for identifying that knife, maybe I should put up a list of the number's I do have and see if they can be matched to the pattern.
Thanks Gundoger

The box my Boker stockman with slanted bolsters came in is labeled 9885, but a guy who lives near me has a NIB stockman with rounded bolsters and his box is also labeled 9885. That's why I was wondering what numbers gundoger's stockmans had. :?

I'm pretty sure the 4" stockman with round bolsters is 7474, and the 4" stockman with slanted squared bolsters is 9885.

I think you're right Blue. That matches what's in the 2005 Boker catalog I saw online somewhere or other.
