Regular jack knife point spear point custom matchstrike
Regular Jack knife 3.57" Closed, 14C28N stainless steel, black paper micarta, milled liners
Nail nick is inspired from a scan of a Maher and Grosh knife that I vectorized and brought in to the laser software
This one ended up just for practice because of an issue with the grinding. I've marked it as a shop knife.

Re: Regular jack knife point spear point custom matchstrike
Hi.
Thank you. My target price point is $550, including simple zipper case, Certificate of Auth. and usually a custom challenge coin.
Builds are typically 14C28N stainless steel, 416 bolsters, 410 liners, mill relieved liners, with 416 shield, pinned shield. Satin hand rubbed finish on blade.
Covers are usually canvas micarta, vintage micarta. I have some interesting carbon fiber (Silver, blue camo, red camo). I am staying away from natural material like stag until I get my fundamentals down. I will be trying some more dyed/jigged bone though.
This paper micarta split at the bottom hole. I need to stick with tougher materials like basic canvas micarta, maybe Richlite for now.
I have 13 more of this pattern rough cut out. So I will be slowly working through them.

Do you mind if I ask how the match strike pull is done? Must be a jig in a press?

Re: Regular jack knife point spear point custom matchstrike
Hi. This nick is done using a fiber laser. I have a 60W fiber laser.
I either draw them in cad or I find a picture.of a vintage one. The picture needs to be converted to an SVG (scalable vector format) outline.
I use laser software called Lightburn. Lightburn has a type of image burn called 3d slice. I use this to create a ramped profile which is essential in a basic crescent nail nick. It simulates the profile of one cut by machine or stamped.
I use that approach but use the outline of the nail nick I scanned.
I'll look for the original Maher and Grosh knife that this one originated from so you can compare.
Ive successfully followed the same method on a more jagged looking Remington matchstrike

That knife is beautiful, Tang stamp, nail pull, over all look. Each detail is very nice.

I love everything about that. The match strike nail nick is on my list of figure outs and do. Well done Sir.
