You are correct Q. The canoe pics are from my archive of knife photos and they are years old in many cases. I started taking pics of my knives to make a catalog of my collection which led to my interest in knife photography. I'm flattered that you remember. As to your question about Ivory, the seller had it listed as mastodon inlay which I assume is a form of prehistoric ivory. I could be wrong. It looks and feels like ivory. How you managed to get that photo with no glare or reflections of the photographer is beyond me. Great pic!

It's the main pattern that I collect so I have a few. I started paying more attention to other patters a couple of years ago and things branched out from there. If you check out the "Do You Canoe" thread you'll see many of them.

I was wondering how you took that, Q! I LIKE IT! The blue on blue (at least what looks like blue - must be that Hawaiian sun ) is perfect, and just the right amount of reflection! Real nice!

Here is something a little different. The Winter Solstice is only a couple of days away, so the Sun is at it weakest time of the year. In order to help it regain its heat and light, I kindled this little fire and cut it an apple.

Those camping photos remind me of camping at Big Bend. If my memory is correct just about every plant in that desert was prickly. There is only one one native cactus in my area, and that is quite enough. Very nice photos!

Full disclosure: the way my car top reflection pics turned out was total luck; I claim zero credit for any perceived skill or photographic expertise. Normally, I spend a bit of time setting up my shots to try and get the best effect, but for those pics I just placed the knife on my car and took a couple quick shots without much concern for things like lighting, camera angle, glare, etc. I was actually surprised at the result given how little thought and effort I put in. Sometimes the stars and planets naturally align themselves and allow us to catch a glimpse of things unmanipulated or artificially contrived.

Cool concept and pic, Mel I, too, like to recognize and celebrate the astronomical seasons with some kind of ritual or special observance. You seem to have a knack for painting a picture and telling a story through your photos and proving that a picture really is worth a thousand words.

Your cacti pics sure brought back a lot of memories of when I lived in the desert, T-Dog However, many of those memories are of all the flat tires I got while mtn biking in heavy Cactaceae areas. I am curious if you have to remove many cactus spines from Zeus after one of your camping or hunting trips

Jumping cactus (cholla) is usually the one that gets a dog (and green horns) first. It'll meet you half way!
