No pattern number, stockman. I think that's a "Tested" shield, so possibly a transition knife. Do you agree?

Yes it is very early in the XX era nice knife. I guess you could call it a transition knife.

My latest Wolfertz from the Easton show is a ringer for the Schrade Cutlery Co. No. 2563 in the ' E ' catalog.

Aimus Moses wrote:Upnorth that 6245 is very nice! I agree with stockman about it being an early XX knife with it having the Tested shield. Very nice example of a Case XX era knife. I wasn't aware of the length differences with the 45 pattern. I'll write that as a note in my book. Congrats on catching that one.

That's early jigging on that one Fran. Could be pre-WWI, IMO.

It cometh from the noble Sir Mark Zaleski, this very day, and for such minor recompense as to be verily a boon.

Sir Mark rescued yon pearly beauty from the dark and dreary cigar box of her cruel captivity at the NCCA show only months ago.

In truth I speak.

That Baldwin is sweet for sure. Mark treated you well Fran, remember who sent him to you ::tounge:: . LOL!!

Very nice bunch of knives. My collecting focus has been to get at least one example of all the knives that "I FEEL" are in some way related to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Therefore when I have several Baldwins in my collection already, "unless I feel the latest one is a vast improvement upon the example that I have" I tend to pass on them.

I have to admit that my collecting has slowed considerably in the last two years as my collection has grown and my list of WANTS gets increasingly smaller. I look for the elusive Smethport cutlery and several from Pittsburgh with no luck for quite sometime. I thoroughly enjoy this thread and hope it continues.

Thanks guys

Fortunately (I believe) Trappers do not "trip my trigger".

But I do so love Spear and Pen blades!

Hey, nice place you've got here at AAPK! I'm in North Central Pennsylvania, does anyone know of any knife manufacturers that may have operated in this part of the state? It looks like there were some beautiful knives made in The Keystone State. Now I got to get me some :-)

Thank a lot S-K. There's sure plenty to see and learn here. I know there was/is several knife manufactures in Pennsylvania, mostly in the western part of the state from what I gather so far. I think they turned out some nice knives, time do do some research!

Here's my latest purchase a C. F. WOLFERTZ & CO ALLENTOWN PA. 3 -5/8" Swell End or Teardrop
all steel except for shield and pins. Schrade made most likely I think UpNorth has an old arch stamped cut co. that is a dead ringer for this one.
Took a quick pic of it today, when I have more time I may take some better pics.
