It's good to find some fellow reloaders among my knife buddies here. I got into reloading maybe 15 or 20 years ago because of competitive shooting. Now I reload for a bunch of pistol and rifle cartridges. Never got into shotshell reloading. My man cave is primarily used for reloading, gun cleaning. Was just setting up my cave when I took this pic so yes I'm aware the case feeder is on backwards!

Rather than starting a new thread maybe you guys would like to share pics of your reloading setup? You saw mine. I have the big Hornady LnL autoprogressive with bullet and case feeder. I use it for 45acp and 223 loads. I won the little blue Dillon 550b press in a pistol match. Use it to load 9mm and 40cal. The Lyman Tmag is used for everything else.

Had the old Star Model B out for a wipe down this morning. My grandfather brought this one back from WWII.

I did a little work on the stock of the old Shapleigh "Diamond Arms" (made by J Stevens, Model 105, circa 1913-1920) shotgun I picked up at an estate sale last month. It was missing one of the "ears" on the walnut stock, and had some cracks in it. I glued a piece of walnut on to replace the ear, then sanded it down to match the contour. Also drilled some small holes and forced epoxy down into the cracks to reinforce them. I put a little BLO on the new walnut piece to darken it, then borrowed some gunpowder residue (soot?) from the inside of my clays shotgun to darken and age the new wood to match the rest of the 100 year old walnut on the stock. You can see the glue seam, but I thought it turned out ok. I wanted to keep the old patina on the gun.

I brought it along last Thursday when we shot Sporting Clays, and took a couple of shots with it. After I broke both single birds, I told the guys I was going to bring this old shotgun with me when I dove hunt this year, because "I have never missed with it". (2 for 2). They chuckled, and told me that record wouldn't stand very long.

My wife calls this my "Jed Clampett gun".

I think this old relic will be a wall hanger in my shop, and may be used to dispatch the occasional copperhead.

Great walnut repair! It's been a while since economy guns got American walnut.

Two questions regarding hunting doves with it: is the choke loose enough and can you cock the hammer fast enough for flushed birds? I had trouble cocking the one shotgun I owned with hammers fast enough. After I traded it off I was told I should have hunted with it loaded but broken open with its hammers cocked then closed the action while I raised it. I wish I'd experimented with that. If it worked I might still have it. I could shoot 100% on 25 yard trap with that gun.

Unk, always great to see an old firearm slicked up and put back into service! The patch work looks great.
No telling how many folks have shot doves with a single barrel shotgun in their lives. We started our son with a H&R 20 ga., shot his 1st dove out of a Cottonwood tree next to our old set of cow pens. He got better and began hitting those zig zaggin' little critters! Several of our acquaintances started their little boys with auto loaders and pumps and my observation was the little single shot 20 gauge brought down more doves.
We bought him an Ithica 37 12ga when he went to college. He has a dominant left eye and learned to shoot left handed, the 37 was perfect for him.

Thanks! Not sure what the choke is. Most of them were full choke back in the day, so I assume that's what this one is. I think I will be able to cock it quick enough to get a dove or two with it, especially if it is an incoming bird.

Thanks TF. I think this is the least valuable firearm I own, but I sure am smitten with it. I guess if you like old pocketknives, you are probably gonna like old guns. My son's first shotgun was a Browning A5 Magnum in 20 gauge. My Father-in-law gave it to him.

I'm a southpaw as well, but I usually shoot a right-handed semi-auto shotgun. I'm just used to the ergonomics of a right-handed gun. The only left handed gun I own is a Rem 700 in .30-06 I bought a few years back. My old Rem 241 .22 is similar to the Ithica 37, as it ejects out the bottom.

Im a lefty shooter too. Right handed all the way but shoot left. Never had a left hand rifle until I bought my bolt action 308. Don't care much for it, been shooting right handed rifles my whole life and just too used to it. That's why I love a lever gun. Works no matter what hand you shoot with

Thank ya red rider. I keep it loaded for snakes and varnmints. I found some defense load 410 a while back and tried em out with the axe on some watermelons. Let's just say wasn't much left to watermelon after 1 shot. It'll do the job. It's a handy shotgun/handgun to have around

Never shot the BL22, but i grew up killing squirrels with my dad's Winchester 94/22. It was just hard to miss one with that rifle. Looked around for one for a couple years. Found a few at gun shows but we're all priced around $1000. That's a whole lot more than I wanna pay for a 22. Settled for a Henry silver boy Evil Roy edition a couple years ago for around $400. It ain't no Winchester but it does the job

I recently found a reproduction sight for my Model 44 Stevens single shot. it is an exact repro Marbles folding tang sight that is going to be the cats pajamas on that old rifle.

We went to my buddies ranch for Opening day. Doves were plentiful, and we had a great time. I hunted with my Remington Versa Max, but took some time to to put a couple of shells through my 100+ year old Stevens 105 until I took down a dove with it. I didn't want to shoot it too much, but it's just fun to take these old guns out in the field and use them for what they were built for. This one hangs above the door in my shop now.
