Kabar info?

Got a couple Kabars, I know there's a fairly broad time frame this stamp was used. Any help on the age of these boogers? Or other info about dating Kabars.

Also, whats the pattern on the last one called? equal end somethin or utter?

I am a real newb to the knife world. Well that is to most brands. I did not know that Kabar made pocket knives. Wow.

I found two references to the tang stamping on these two knives, one in Parker's book and one in Voyle's, both listed this tang stamping as "current". The first book was published in the '80's and the second book in the '90's.

Just looking at the construction of the knives (mainly the composition handles) would suggest that they were made no earlier than the '70's.

Depending on the size of the second knife (say in the range of 2 3/4 - 3 1/4") I would call the second knife a Senator pen knife.

I did not know that Kabar made pocket knives. Wow.

Oh yes and for a long time. I have my paternal grandfather's KaBar Trapper. Logo on the shield is almost worn off by carrying in his pocket. He was a hard rock miner in Colorado and I suppose the dust that he breathed also filtered into the cloth of his pants pockets. The "relic" also has missing corners on the bone handles. Grandpa passed away with lung disease in 1934. My Dad gave that knife to me on my 14th birthday in 1952. I carried it in my RFP for several years. It took a while but I finally amassed enough money to buy my first new knife, a Case Trapper, very much like Grandpa's KaBar.

I am not to happy to date with KA-BAR and their current fixed blades.

I do like the photographs! though I don't have any experience with KA-BAR pocket knives, really nice photographs. . .

Jethro, no help from me sorry; but both are nice. This is my only experience with KaBar; I have a 1960's "Old Timers Trappers Knife". Scales got to looking bad to me; not a fan of yellow sorry Ken ; and Mike Hoover re-handled with Dino bone.

Thats ok that you rehandled yours. This means one less Yellow Ka Bar and my yellow dogs may go up in value now.

Those Ka-bar's blades are made of my favorite carbon steel. I have a couple of Ka-bar swell end jacks and a trapper made like your delrin handled knives Jethro. I'm pretty sure they were made by Camillus. They take a fine edge and hold it well. Hard to beat EDC knives.
