Latest Canal Street Additions

Former Schrade President Walley Gardner and principal Joe Hufnagel joined with nine master cutlers to form a group of US craftsmen with over 300 years of combined knife making experience to create Canal Street Cutlery. It was first located in upstate New York where a long and rich tradition of quality knife making dates back to the 19th century. Unfortunately, the company closed its doors in 2015, but not before making some great knives. The brand was resurrected in 2018 as Canal Street Cutlery Co-Op & focused on making very small batches of high quality traditional knives. As a Co-Op, it was owned by the knife makers who worked there. Unfortunately, the business model couldn't hold up & the entity again ceased production.

I finally landed a Canal Street with Dark Amber Stag Bone...been wanting one to add to my ACSB collection for some time. A Cannitler wasn't my first choice of patterns, but this one'll do just fine since I mainly got it for the ACSB. It's a decent knife...not as snappy as I expected from a Canal Street, which is a little disappointing...but otherwise, the fit and finish is pretty nice. The master spear blade is slightly off center and rubs the tang of the secondary pen blade (you can see the rub mark on the "mark" side tip of the spear  )

Scored another Canal street from the bay today. 2011 AAPK club knife. Lockback single blade trapper with whitetail antler handles. Super nice!

That is a great score. Beautiful knife better with the AAPK connection. Congrats.

Thanks for the comments. Pics make the blade look scratched, even rusty on the edge. It is neither. I also scored from the same seller, the 2012 AAPK knife which is a CS muskrat with Elk handles. I would love to snag the 2023 knife but have yet to find one at a reasonable price. There is one listed on the bay for $600. He can choke on it.

I notice several references to "moonpie" trapper in ebay ads for CS knives. Is moonpie?

The full size two blade trapper is called the Moon Pie Trapper. The single blade trapper is called the Half Moon Trapper. Don't ask me why. ::shrug::

Simple i guess. Too bad CS isn't still around. They sure made some fine knives. Thanks Phil.
