Morning Friends,

I'll be doing some picture updates of my collection over the course of the next day or two.
This first picture includes 16 plates that I have acquired on eBay over the past 6-7 months. I especially like the University of Memphis plate because my nephew is currently enrolled there.

And my Buddy Jake is here to help with the quality control.
Had to make use of the word "SNACKS" to get him to look at the camera.
They call me the "Snack--Daddy"" around here for a reason.

Add: Almost forgot to mention that the Nebraska & S.D. plates in the lower right corner were gifted to me by another AAKP member Chris ( Chrispink630 ). I had purchased a few knives from him while visiting my Mom Last September and he kindly through in a plate from his home state as well as one from my birth year of 72. Thanks Buddy! I appreciate it !

This next group of 7 plates are all very "Special" to me.

The Washington D.C. I bought on the last "Antique Shopping Trip" I got to do with my Mom in September 2024.
It was also the last "state" (or District) missing in my collection so it's really cool that she was with me when I aquired it.

The "Safer Money", PA plate was gifted to me by my mom's insurence salesman shortly after her death in Oct 2024. Great Guy!

The other 5 (as well as the Washington DC plate) were all purchased at an Antique store called . . . ,

Leesburg, VA is a cute little town with a number of cool Antique stores and Civil War Sites. So if your ever in the area it's really worth a visit.

Anyways,, my sister & I stopped by this store several times on our way back & forth from the airport when I was visiting my Mom and then also for her funeral. Two of the plates (S.C. & Maine) my sister bought for me as an early Birthday gift. Indiana & the 2 VA plates, I bought.

The 1975 NH plate (and a beautiful Case knife) was gifted to me by Glenn (Glennbad) in September 2024 while I was visiting my Mom in MD. It had belonged to his father-in-law. Thanks again Glenn!

And last but not least, I would like to say Thanks to Chris (PringleTree) for these two beautiful 1965 & 1966 West Virginia plates. At the time, the blue & yellow would change back & forth from year to year. Chris bought and sent these two plates to me to donate to my collection. I have had them for some time now and I should have thanked him much sooner than today. Sorry about that Chris.

At Peg Leg Pete's in Pensacola, there's a Maryland plate with LEROY on it, it always reminds me of my uncle.

I'm almost ready to start mounting them. Got stuff (memories) written on the back of 12 of them Yesterday and about 20 of them cleaned. A few had some rust on the reverse sides so I knocked that of with some sand papier. There are about 6-8 more to be cleaned, then the fun part comes. Actually adding them to the others. Then I'll take some updated pictures of the whole collection to share.

Hi friends,

So, today I have picture updates of my collection ready to post.

First picture is of the spot I call the "Wall of Fame". This is where my collection started and it holds a good number of plates that I have recieved from other AAPK members. Thank you.

It has been expanded down wards to the door below it which holds my "In God We Trust" collection of 5 plates. To these 5 I have also added my Washington DC & a Jamestown Virginia plates.

Next two pictures just show the view up into the rafters. Looking into my Carport from either direction you can see three beams, each holding 6 plates.

First the view from the front & then from the back side of the Carport. When cars come up the street at night, their head lights shine into the Carport. They are greeted by the view of 18 strongly light refleckting plates. Looks pretty cool & I have often seen cars actually pause for a few seconds to take in the view.

Moving along to the sub collections. First off the "Farm and Animal" related plates.

Left of that comes a sub collection I really enjoy looking at. The "College Sports" collection.
I noticed that I have Zero teams from western states. Still one spot left below Memphis, I think I need something from Texas or Arizona or something. I have seen Arizona's plates before but nothing from Texas yet.

Further left of that comes the sub collection I call the "Old School" collection. Plates up to 1990.

Top 5 oldest plates in my collection are.:

1) 1957 Maine
2) 1963 Louisiana
3) 1964 Texas
4) 1965 West Virginia
5) 1966 West Virginia

While cleaning and mounting the West Virginia plates Chris sent to me, I noticed something very interesting. Something I haven"t seen untill now. So we all know how the"raised lettering" on plates are right. Well on the 1965 plate the letters or not"raised", they are indented. Meaning pushed in towards the car bumper. Never seen this feature on any other plate before. So I find that very unique.

In the far back of the Carport, left of the "Old School" collection comes what I call the "Wild West" collection.

And last but not least, the area I don't have a name 4 yet. Right now I think of it as the "Over Flow" area. Originally it was only supposed to have the "Sweet Home Alabama" plate that I framed but for lack of a better place, it has been surrounded by 10 friends.

If I counted correctly my collection now holds 145 plates.

Cool, "Incused" is the term used for that in coin collecting.

That is a great collection, Tom. It must be very satisfying to sit and look at, and be reminded of your homeland as well as those who have helped with the collection. Nice to see that Michigan bicentennial plate. I still have mine, my 1st set of plates when I moved there in late '75. I think they are the best looking of all the States examples of Bicentennial license plates.

Yes, my collection brings me great "Joy" to look at. Just like my Pocket Knives do.
About the Michigan plate. Michigan actually won a contest for the best designed bicentenial plate back then and guess what, they are bringing it back (that Design) in 2026 (50 years later) so be sure you get a new set to go along with the old ones. They would look great together!
I plan on getting the new version as soon as I can get one at a reasonable price.
