Nice color! Most leaves haven’t turned here yet, and it’s been so dry they may not. In fact it has not rained in weeks. Officially it’s been 34 days but what we got then (0.1 inches) wasn’t enough to make any difference. In fact it’s so dry I mowed the pond. It’s over 20 feet deep when full. Our granddaughter caught a 2 pound bass and several bluegill out of it in July!

Ken, it's dry in our part of God's creation too! We had 8.9 inches on September 26th, the edge of Hurricane Helene that created so much damage up in the lower Appalachian area. All that to say, 35 days with no rainfall makes it a dusty, dry place. Ponds are not dry like yours but getting lower each day. We can drive any road on the property in 2 wheel drive!Mumbleypeg wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2024 3:18 am Nice color! Most leaves haven’t turned here yet, and it’s been so dry they may not. Cotton farmers are probably the only folks pleased with this dry spell.

Last weekend I was out for a walk with my daughter and we happened to pass by the city's natural history museum. I hadn't been in for 20 years.

The garden of Simeon.
In 1891 the Bulgarian government decides that the First Bulgarian Agricultural and Industrial Exhibition will be held in Plovdiv from August to the end of October 1892. On the site of the old Turkish cemetery "Şehidlik", for 10 months from October 1891 to July 1892. a magnificent garden was created, of which all the European newspapers, describing the Exhibition at the time, said that it was something incredible, created by the Swiss gardener Lucien Chevallas in the Balkan Peninsula. Thus, a beautiful park of European type was built on an area of over 90,000 square meters. sq. m, in which there are 36 exhibition pavilions. The exhibition halls and park are lit by electricity.
On August 15, 1892 in the presence of Prince Ferdinand I - patron of the exhibition, Bulgarian ministers, church clergy, foreign consuls, participants and guests, the ceremonial opening of the exhibition took place. About 2,500 soldiers take part in a holiday parade. The balloon of the French aviator Godard rises in the sky over Plovdiv. The 10-meter steamer "Angel Kanchev", which is the first vessel in Bulgaria powered by liquid fuel, is located in the artificial lake of the exhibition.
After the end of the exhibition, the Bulgarian prince Ferdinand issued a decree with which he presented the garden to the people of Plovdiv with two conditions: It should bear the name of the great Bulgarian ruler Simeon I and the people of Plovdiv should take care of it.

Why did the chicken cross the road?
To prove to the racoon and possum that it could be done. Saw this one on the road today. It does bring up the age old question.

Is he dead?
Or is he just " playing possum"?

You could almost buy a nice GEC for that kind of coin.
The local Harris Teeter was playing Christmas tunes at lunchtime today, got to hear Santa Claus is Coming to Town and Frosty the Snowman.

Hard to believe, Ken. We're in the 36 days without rain range too. We've had to water the cows with municipal water.Mumbleypeg wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2024 3:18 am Nice color!
