20-40 folder

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

I seem to remember reading that Case did not stamp pattern numbers on the tang in the Tested era.

Nice knife!

Yes, many Tested era knives didn't have pattern numbers stamped on them. I'm not sure about that stag though, would need to see it better . . . 🤔

Mine seems similar, no number stamped on mine.

Good looking knife you have there. Beautiful condition.

Thanks for the info. Also thought I read early knives did not all have pattern numbers. 'But was not sure.
Stag looks good. Has pinned shield. But no idea if stag was an option at that time. Knife seems orig / ish.
These are also being shipped with the folder. Was shooting to collect 65-70.
But, a few mid and late 70's were too good to pass up. Like these 3.

This was also avail. But seemed to be re-handled. Odd, and not worth too much at all.
Thoughts?

Nice couple of Case fixed blades. If I reading the 5th Edition of Sargent's correctly the top knife is a Model 63 and the bottom is what looks like a small Bowie Knife. Very nice.

Joe, the 2 knives look to be the same model in stag.
What do you call that one? Model wise.
The 02 pattern looked close to me. So 5202 1/2 is my best guess.
The seller called it a "bare head jack".
Thanks & cool knife!
Mine should be here in / in today's mail.

Thank you, MCM.
I believe our two knives are 02 pattern number.
Steve Pfeiffer, in his "Collecting Case Knives" doesn't mention stag for the covers on these knives
but here we are with two of them.
They are bare head jacks. No bolster on the bottom of knife.
Your's looks true and a real beauty. I hope you enjoy it. ::tu::
I sure like mine.

So, is this knife orig? Have been reading about fakes. And this one seems brand new.
Great action, super strong 1/2 stops / both blades.
Much better than any of my other slip joints..

It does look original. One thing I have discovered about the older Case knives is the style of the stag. The modern stag handled knives all seem to have very thick stag and generally sellers boast about "fat" stag handles, however, all of the older knives I've seen up to Case XX era are very thin stag, the old timers seemed to prize thin light knives over heavy thick knives, something that has been reversed in the modern era. I think the old timers prized knives that were light in the pocket whereas modern buyers are buying for a collection. Most stag counterfeits I've seen have the fat stag, if I see fat stag on an older Case, I pass on by.
