Philco they was doing that when I traveled out that way back in 2012. Like you say it makes sense.
I noticed on my little trip to Illinois this past week that there and Ky. they have cut a swath next to the highway and are letting the rest of the median grow up. I kinda hope they come back and cut it, just looks ugly to me. Some places they planted wild flowers and I'm cool with that. ::handshake::

Years ago when we were in the cow business, we thought about bailing some roadside Bahai grass. We were informed by several older heads that it would not be a good idea for several reasons. They said the residue from vehicle exhaust would contaminate our "free" hay crop. Also we would possibly contribute to hardware disease by unintentionally baling bits of metal, cans, plastics and glass commonly found on public right of ways. Back then, in the late '70s, we scrambled around and bailed about anything that could be made palatable use of hot mineral lick.
I can see a lot of uses for bailed right of way grass without feeding it to cattle.
Just a comment from an old feller almost over the hill. :)

Farmer out there you don't worry about pollution and trash on the interstate like you do east of the Mississippi. Just a point of information ole man you and me are way over the hill and we've got a fast downhill slide with nothing but hole waiting for us at the bottom. ::facepalm:: ::woot::  ::handshake::

We had an incident recently that buried a Lexus into my neighbors garage up to the windshield a half block from me. The 15 year old student driver with mom in the front passenger seat were going round and round our street that is just a dead end loop when the driver mistakenly mashed the accelerater to the floor instead of the brake. Wall of the garage is demolished as well as damaging a Chrysler van parked in the garage. Glad she missed my buildings.

Very common thing in this part of the country. All the cattle we have need to get something to eat.

I posted some pics of this copperhead we killed in the front yard a few weeks ago. We took the hide and made a hat band for my buddy last night for his cheap-ass gas station cowboy hat. Complete with a turkey feather. I told him there's a "You might be a Redneck" joke in there somewhere.

Yesterday afternoon we got hit with a violent deluge; great wind and an impressive amount of water. This house sits on a gently sloping hill so the runoff water collected at the bottom of the property.

Well, HE thinks it looks good. No sense in telling him the truth.

On a positive note, I told him the hat distracts from his face a little bit, which is a good thing.

(we've been best friends since we were little kids - we tease each other pretty hard)

And buy him a real beer!

BTW I have several relatives of that copperhead here on my place. By my calculation of over 40 years observation, if you see a snake here there’s a 50% chance it’s a copperhead. ::woot::

Hey, Bob Uecker told us Miller Lite was the best! 😄

Ken, your 50% is about right for around here, too. We have Plain Bellied Water Snakes and Rat snakes, and the occasional Coach Whip. But about half of all we see are copperheads. We have killed some rattlesnakes in our neighborhood, but none on my property so far.

I am on work leave and I used the free time for a small renovation of the corridor. Removing the wall covering (some crap called Japanese plaster) - 2 days. Plastering- 2 days. 3 coats of Finnish latex, new lights and light switches - 2 days. That's it.
