JR Case 6.5173L BG42 what have I got here?

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

BG 42 is a stainless ball bearing steel that was used to make very hard knife blades before it was superseeded by S30V which was alloyed specifically for cutlery. The 73 handle pattern is uncommon. Nice find!

Congratulations on a nice find! IMHO the Slimlock is one of, if not the most elegant knives Case ever made. It's a shame they only made it a short time before it was discontinued. I suspect at the price they didn’t sell as well as they hoped, but those I have seen and handled are better made than any GEC or most custom made knives at the same or even higher price point. IThere are other examples posted here on AAPK so if you're interested do a search for "Slimlock".
