Value and type of knife

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

I hate to be a "debbie downer" for you. The knife is not an authentic Case Tested XX era knife. If you have the opportunity to return it, you should. This happens to all of us. Hard to put a value on it, but very low compared to what an authentic example would be.

The pattern does not look familiar to me, it may mimic a 05230 pattern (3 1/4" closed) or a 05245 pattern (3 5/8" closed). The stag is not old Case stag. The bomb shield would not have that style of engraving - it should have raised lettering and no enclosing ellipse. The Case Tested XX trademark stamp on the tang is not authentic. The blades are likely not made from period authentic steel.

I am by no means a Case expert, but the tang has been shaved down and re-stamped.
When you look at the line of the tang, it is upswept near the spine. That line should be straight across.
If have tried to draw a line to explain it better, but my "upswept" line is a bit sloppy and exaggerated.
Still, compare it to what you see in person, and it will give you one clue to look for when thinking about purchasing in the future.

Agree totally - an “across the room” fake. If you can return it for a refund, do so. Or if you don’t have much invested in it, carry and use it. Chalk it up to a learning experience. ::tu::
