1940-64 trapper light red color

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

1940-64 trapper light red color

Post by Tom99 »

I picked up this trapper today at an estate sale. I figured it was fairly new based on the bright color. I was surprised to see how old it was when I looked at the stamp. I didn't know Case made anything like that in the CASE XX era. I think of older Case reds to be darker red. Could it possibly just be faded, or what the heck do I have here?

Shaved tang, cold stamp. viewtopic.php?f=17&t=76717&p=1030041&hi ... 30041Guess maybe the shyster that did it figured they couldn't pass off those covers as Tested XX so he tried CASE XX. ::shrug::

Thanks for the education, guys. I had about 30 seconds to grab three $5 knives at that sale. When the doors open at an estate sale, you have to act fast. At least the other two (C. Schlieper and Uncle Henry) appear to be genuine.

Well, for $5 you certainly didn't go wrong! You can always drill a hole through the tang (to mark it as counterfeit), sharpen it up good and use it until it wears out. The shield alone is worth what you paid for the knife.
