Thanks Herb, that’s what I was hoping for. I didn’t want his personal info put out, just hoping someone that had it may have reached out. Like mentioned, I wondered if anyone had searched obituary (seems morbid but..) for his given name in Winnipeg. I got the impression he lived alone, hope all is ok.
Coley, I just got off the phone with the Winnipeg police. They are sending an office over to his apartment right now, and I will let you know if I find anything out. They cautioned me that due to privacy concerns they might not be able to share much.

That's good to know, Herb. Thanks for doing this. I sure hope his collection doesn't stir up any problems with the Mounties!

Madmarco Update

Post by herbva »

The Winnipeg authorities (I think the police might have sent the fire department over) just called me back. All they were allowed to tell me is that they gained entry to his apartment and the TV was on, the apartment looks to be well maintained, and the cat has food and water. So, I'm afraid that this is all we are going to get for now. No bad news is good news. ::hmm::

Just want to be clear, Mark paid for his own membership. I did get him to join AAPK but he paid for it himself.
I hope we get some answers as to his whereabouts and he is just in some sunny location and nothing bad has happened. He hasn’t responded to my email last week and that is unusual. He normally gets back to me the same day when we exchange emails.

Same with me, SSK. He always gets back to me quickly. I'm with you, hopefully it's just a good vacation he's on..

Conjecture. I guess if he was away the person watching the cat would leave the tv on for the cat? I turn music on when we leave for a hour! (Two cats)

That sounds like a possibility. ::hmm::

I know one thing. If he is on vacation he will be surprised to see what we have been doing while he was away! Hope he feels the love.

I keep our AAPK community in my daily prayers with special remembrance when requested; I’ll add Mark to my remembrance list.

We’ve had other community members go radio silent through the years and it’s always surrounded by angst, frustration and sometimes no information. While privacy is of the highest priority with any online forum, at AAPK we get to know each other either through knife trading or common interest or locality and when one of those connections is broken, it does not feel good.

I don’t have a good solution other than share what I’ve done. In the event that I’m out of commission for more than 48 hours, my dear wife will make her way through my requested contact list which for AAPK includes Bryan and a few others in our community who will be asked to make a general announcement. It’s not optimal because life may be crazy for my wife at that time but she could delegate my requests to 1 of my sons.

I’m not trying to hijack this thread, Mark’s absence stings. I’m just offering up some dialogue to potentially prevent future sting in our community.

And here is another reason that this is the best forum on the internet. Thanks Tom.

I am with you guys. Don't know Marco as well as you do, but in my brief time on AAPK, I have come to like and respect him tremendously, based on our posts exchanges, and seeing his interaction with all here. He is in my prayers and concerns along with you. God Bless!
