My collection

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Aintright, your fine collection will put a lot of so-called Case dealers around here to shame! ::nod::

Great start. One word of advice the Christmas tree handled clasp knife needs to be kept away from all other knives. It has Celluloid handles and when it starts to gas off it will destroy any around it. Celluloid is best to be kept out of direct light and in Open air.

Aintright, that is very impressive. How did you collect such a large
amount in such a short period? ebay? buying out collectors at knife meets?

All in 8 months! You've been having fun! That would take an understanding wife.

You already have an impressive collection of pearl. A couple of odd balls caught my eye, your blue 6520 Big Nut and your Bulldog or clasp knife. I like lots of blades and big folders. I wish I could find big knives with many blades more often.

Celluloid handles out gassing is unpredictable but usually only happens in old knives. They can stay in good shape for a lifetime but if you get unlucky the gas will cause non-stainless steel parts enclosed in the same container to rust fast. One clue they are starting to out gass is shrinking side covers opening small gaps between the celluloid and bolsters.

Really the bigger risk is dropping your pearl knives onto hard floors. Pearl cracks easily.

To the contrary, newer celluloid is very susceptible to outgassing. The number of Bulldog, Fightin’ Rooster and Case Classics celluloids that have been ruined and/or re-handled due to outgassing is significant. Possibly even more volatile and unpredictable than the older celluloid knives. ::shrug::

I put new handles on them all the time and no they are not older knives.
