Re: Case Fixed Blades with Screw in Butt Cap /Compass
Good luck with that Gary! I'm sure you know those are crazy hard to find. In one of my pre war Union Cut price lists they list aluminum butt caps and compasses available separately so folks must have lost them back then. The plastic handled KA-BAR you show takes a really hard to find plastic butt cap. Some years back I got lucky and got four aluminum KA-BAR hollow handles with butt caps but no compasses on the bay. That at least gave me caps for four knives, all used by now. I believe all the aluminum handles were made by Alumac in NJ. They are all similar and under the compass on many is a cast in mark saying Alumac NJ. I have researched Alumac and know they were in Clifton but little other info was found.

Thanks for the info and like you said it may be like searching for a needle in a hay stack. Was just hoping for a beat up blade and a good cap. They are pretty Rare but you never know!!!!Gunsil wrote: ↑Tue Jul 04, 2023 4:39 pm Good luck with that Gary! I'm sure you know those are crazy hard to find. I think they will all interchange or at least the metal handle ones will.

Re: Case Fixed Blades with Screw in Butt Cap /Compass
Yes, all aluminum caps are interchangeable, they were all made by the same company. I think an aluminum cap will screw into the plastic KA-BAR but would look funny. Your aluminum KA-BAR and Kinfolks look more like donor knives, I don't think adding a cap will help value. I have also had the aluminum ones marked Clauss, Cattaraugus, and R-G. I really searched out hollow handles for a while, think they are pretty cool. KA-BAR also made a hatchet with the aluminum hollow handle to match the knife, they are very hard to find.

Mike, I have not previously seen the Ulster. It is identical to the R-G knives. Pretty cool since Ulster was not known for fixed blades. The R-G knives have R-G on the handle as well as the blades.

Hey Gary, have you ever seen one of these? Rather rare Case hollow handle. This one has a machinist made brass butt cap, no compass, but it's a rare bird. By the way, are you coming up to the Case show in Bradford in nine days?

Don't think I've seen that one. I would come and set up but they don't act like they want any dealers . Want let you bring a vehicle in to unload and I think it's just a one day for dealers (14 Hr Ride for me). Wish it was like it used to be, but I wish my country was that way also .Gunsil wrote: ↑Wed Jul 05, 2023 8:04 pm Hey Gary, have you ever seen one of these? Rather rare Case hollow handle. Re: Case Fixed Blades with Screw in Butt Cap /Compass
I dunno, I applied for a table and got one. Last week they offered me another but I declined, since they really want Case stuff and I don't think I can cover more than 8' with what I have in Case. I hope they fill the tables and it is a good show even if only one day. I told them I was a vendor at the old factory shows, I think there will be one tent of knife/Zippo sellers and one tent of "made in Bradford" craftspeople. Last year's attempt at a show was stupid, they are trying to do better. Place was always good for walk in knives and that's one reason I'm trying again, I've picked up some winners there. I think Brad is going up there to shop also. They likely won't try again for two years but I have heard rumors about a show in Little Valley next year. I asked them about unloading/loading and although they won't allow driving on the field they told me they will have a crew there to help vendors get their stuff to the tent. I don't know if you were at any of the shows in the field behind Zippo but it is low and gets muddy with rain. I agree 14 hours is a long trip for one day, it's six hours one way for me.

Re: Case Fixed Blades with Screw in Butt Cap /Compass
I've done the one in the field at Zippo the year it rained and we had a river running through the tents and a couple over at the Factory . I liked them better
Re: Case Fixed Blades with Screw in Butt Cap /Compass
I liked the tent set up at the factory too, but do remember a couple inches of water flowing through the tent there too. July in NY is often quite humid with big thunderstorms, sure hoping for no rain on the 15th!
