Re: 6220 1/2
Not sure what you mean by 6220-1/2? Case used the “1/2” to denote a clip master blade on a pattern which traditionally has a spear master. The 6220 “peanut” to my knowledge has always been made with a clip master blade. Therefore the “1/2” isn’t used on the 20 pattern (at least I don’t recall ever seeing it). There was no 20 peanut pattern with a spear master, so there is no 6220-1/2, just a 6220.
So if your question is did they make the 6220 in the XX era the answer is “yes”. The 6229-1/2 “tadpole” is a 2-1/2 inch jack, which is 1/4 inch shorter than the peanut. It’s also more of a “bowed” swell-end pattern, whereas the peanut is serpentine.
Hope that answers your question. If I’ve confused you please see the AAPK “Research” section https://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/ca ... ence-guide

Re: 6220 1/2
It's a 6229-1/2. I'd say the 9 isn't clearly struck and looks somewhat like 0. Could also be that the seller's picture is slightly out of focus.

I know they made a newer one with a Spey type blade. I had just never seen a XX era one.

The XX 6229-1/2 is fairly common, there's usually couple for sale on eBay most of the time. Do an advanced search of eBay sold listings and you'll find them. The U.S.A. versions are more scarce - they quit making them early in the U.S.A. era.

Re: 6220 1/2
That's a peanut, not a Tadpole. Not sure what year but I don't even try to keep up with all the new stuff they put out.

Edit: I did a little digging today and looks like Case introduced a xx20-1/2 pattern in late 1990s, called the “Trapper Nut”. It is a 20 pattern “peanut” with a clip and spey blade configuration, like the traditional Trapper. It’s been offered in numerous handle cover variations. Learned something new!

Re: 6220 1/2
The knife your son bought is a 6229 1/2. I saw it on ebay and saw that the pattern number was listed as a 6220 1/2. I think it was an honest mistake.
Re: 6220 1/2
Either way I’m happy. I’ve had several tadpoles and always liked them. Looks good to me. That stamp. I’m gonna have to put it under the loop. Hahaha
Re: 6220 1/2
Here’s some pics. It as minty a tadpole as I have had. I kmow it’s a 6229 1/2 tadpole. But. If I didnt know I would say it says a 6220 1/2
Re: 6220 1/2
Sure looks like a "0" to me. I cannot see how you would get a "9" out of that.

Re: 6220 1/2
Looks like a 9 to me, although I can certainly see how some might see it as a 0. There are clear indentations visible where the figure curves in where it should on a 9, and shouldn’t on a 0. As an example, the 6 is only slightly better. Probably depends somewhat on what you’re expecting to see - the power of suggestion.
Knowing the pattern, I expect to see a 9. If not knowing what to expect, I’d probably think it to be a 0.
