Need help with Case knife display

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Need help with Case knife display

Post by Perkin57 »

Good evening,
I'm new to this forum so if I'm posting this message in the incorrect area I apologize. I need some expertise & help with a collection.
I inherited a Case Cutlery retail counter display from my father's estate. He operated several hardware stores for about 30 yrs. The display is 16" w x 18" h. There are 14 knives & 2 belt sheathes attached to the display board. There appears to be one knife missing from the display board. Inside the display case are 2 new small folding pocket knives, one larger sheathe & some paperwork. There are also 2 Case brass belt buckles. They both appear to have very slight wear & the belt hoop is broken on one of them. The inventory sheet for the display board is dated 1980. The key to lock the display is attached.
Can you help me establish a value range for this item? Or direct me to someone that might be able to? I have attached some photos.
My father always carried a pocket knife, right up until he recently passed at 96. I found a dozen or so of the different knives he carried over the years. He also enjoyed selling them.
Thanks for taking the time to look at this!
Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to AAPK. Sorry for the loss of your father. Hopefully you’re going to keep this wonderful family heirloom to remember him and his interests in knives.

These displays come up for auction on eBay fairly regularly, sometimes with knives intact but usually without the knives (which are often sold separately). The displays as a stand-alone item typically sell for around $200 - $250 plus shipping (which is not cheap).

Best method to determine value is an advanced search of eBay for sold listings of the item. You’ll likely be able to determine a ballpark value for each knife also, but you need to determine the age of the knives as that will make some difference in their value. (See the Research section, up there in the grey header at the top of this page - open it and scroll down to where it says Age Identification of Case Knives). If you’re planning to sell the knives with the display as a single listing they won’t bring as much as if they were sold individually.

Lastly if you’re determined to sell it there are members here who are knife dealers and might be interested in buying the whole lot. If you have no interest in researching and learning about the knives, selling to a dealer would save you the trouble and you’d get some money right away. But realize they need to make something themselves (they’re going to do the work you’re avoiding) so they’re not going to pay full value.

BTW if you want you can delete the duplicate post you made. Just click on the little box with the x in it (upper right of your post). Then follow the prompts. That works as long as there have been no replies to that post. After that you’d have to ask an admin to delete it.

Selling to a dealer would save you time anddrift hunters effort if you aren't interested in knowing more about the knives.
