I.M. SWIFT
I just acquired an older 2 blade jack with a tang stamp on both blades that readS I.M. SWIFT. Does anyone know anything about this knife manufacturer or where I can find info on them? The only thing my internet search is showing me is possibly made in 1899. I would appreciate ANY help. Thank you & keep looking up.

Going out on a limb here. Could it be someone's name? The
knife at one time taken apart and someone put their name
on the tang?

I believe that was a German made knife imported by the St Lawrence Cutlery Co in the late 1800's. I recall seeing a pearl one some years ago. There's a listing on Ebay right now that shows a handful of models on an old HSB catalog page.

There also was one for sale here on AAPK. https://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/ca ... -1886-1914 But, I don't see any mention of I.M. Swift or St. Lawrence Cutlery in Carter's book on German knives.

St Lawrence Cutlery was out of St Louis. They were basically a knife importer dealing almost exclusively in German knives, mostly from Schmachtenberg. I believe I.M.Swift was one of their trademarks. Here's the pearl knife I mentioned, marked Germany under I.M. Swift. It's from an auction about 5 years ago:

I saw that page but wasn’t sure if it was correct to this knife. That is where I got the 1899 date from. Thank you for the info.
