Newbie questions

Post by prober996 »

I've seen a lot of references on this forum to a "picklock" design. What does that mean, exactly?

Also, one of my Italian switchblades has a red dot on the scale where safety would slide to. I've seen this on other knives in this forum. Is this a feature of a specific manufacturer, or does it just universally mean "not safe when visible", like a handgun safety would?

The “search” function here works great. ::tu::

Picklock is when you have to push up the locking tab to close the blade and when the red dot is covered the safety is engaged, hope this explains this for you.

picklock means you have to "pick" or pull back the lock tab to close blade .
red dot safety were usually put on higher end picklocks like coricama etc.. but ive seen them on others , Latama never came with red dot safety back in the day so i was kinda not understanding why walter halucha would put red dot safety on all his newly made Latama stamped knives as its just not correct (history wise) just sayin......

Of all of the stiletto style switchblades in my inherited collection, this the only knife I have with the red dot (although it is hidden in this photo).
