Re: Hope You Blokes Can Help
It’s not a trapper pattern. I’d call it a folding hunter.

Are there any dots under the Case XX? On that pattern you may have to rotate the blade back to home and look closely at the area exposed as you move it. Something about that tang stamp says 80’s to me, but could be wrong. The pictures won’t enlarge for me and my eyes are aren’t good enough to see the detail.

I enlarged the photo and I think I can see one dot which would make it being made in 1979.
Good looking knife.
I'm very fond of folding hunters.

What he said.

Not sure how you posted the second picture but that's the only one that will let me enlarge.

Pocket, fixed, machete, axe, it's all good!

Re: Hope You Blokes Can Help
Not to discourage you from posting questions, but being new here you probably have not found the “self help” resources available here. In the header at the top of the page is a link to the research section - just click on “Research” https://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/page/research.php. Scroll down to find various topics, one of which is “W.R. Case & Sons Pocket Knife Age Identification” i.e. how to determine the age of a Case pocket knife from the tang stamp. There is also a Case pocket knife pattern number reference guide and a guide to pattern names, among other things and info on other brands.
Here is a link to a “sticky” thread about knife values. https://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/kn ... =2&t=77592 Aside from the advice given there, for most knives your best source of current value is an advanced search of ebay for sales of the knife in question. The advanced search lets you limit your search to sold listings only, which culls all current listings and unsold listings which are the seller asking prices, not what the item actually sold for.
Hope that helps!

Re: Hope You Blokes Can Help
Fellas thanks so much for the help, I do apologize for my ignorance on using the forum functions no doubt I will become more familiar in time
Yes there is one dot and as I was advised I had to rotate the blade in and out to pick it up so that would be 1979, that's great
Is it ok to get some valuation idea we don't see many down here
Thanks
John

Re: Hope You Blokes Can Help
John, I could be off but I would hazard a guess of about 75 dollars. Since it’s used and it will take good bit of sharpening to straighten that edge out, that makes it worth less than a mint conditioned one would be.
Hope that helps.

Here is a link to the current sold listings ebay search I referenced in my prior post. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=Ca ... Complete=1 Fourth knife down from the top is a 6165, made in 1979. I think the same as yours. Listing says in mint condition. There’s another farther down the page also. Note these all sold recently so should give you an estimate of value. Adjust accordingly for condition of course.JohnGraeme wrote: ↑Tue Dec 13, 2022 1:12 am Thanks a lot fellas, been searching different sites but haven't found one identical its a large knife.
