I saw this one drop via email the other day sent out to CCC members and bought it. Barnboard jigged burnt cream bone barehead trapper. Random carbon Damascus blade and NO brass on this knife. Only 153 of these were made, this one is 122. Posted also in the newest Case pickups thread.

I really like your Bandit Jamie. As-a-matter-of-fact, I just got a very similar clasp from Willie, and until I handled it I didn't realize just how nice it was. CCC stands for Case Collector’s Club. You have to be a member to purchase their knives.
This knife has surprisingly good centering as well, which is also hard to find on Case knives.
Sorry for your bad experience. I’ve had a few with Case knives and stopped collecting them, with rare exceptions like this one. I will only buy ones that really strike me as unusual and I prefer low production numbers on the ones that I do buy. Sometimes a handle material will really grab me and I purchase those as well, but the number I buy now is far, far fewer than I bought when I first started collecting. I found too many other great options, like Moki, GEC, S&M, Henckels, Hen and Rooster and any made during Bill Howards tenure at Queen like Winchester and Robeson. Why waste money on knives that are below par?
Thanks a bunch for the review and pics. Really appreciate that. And I agree with almost everything you said. But my personal opinion is that it's not the tumbling in the drum that makes that run up off center like yours has and mine has worse. I've had tumbled knives with good run up that is square. The shape on yours and mine and Q's is not square at all. The shape is exactly the same on yours as mine, rounded off more on the pile side so it doesn't mee the spring evenly. Same as Q's version. That would only happen on the tang in the same manner if it was made that shape during production IMHO. And the fact that they all have the same rounded corner on the pile side tells me they were finished that way before they were tumbled. Or they were stamped out that way and never cleaned up for finishing. Either way, it's something they are doing to geek it up in the manufacturing process and the fact that it keeps being reproduced in the production sequence tells me it's a screw up that keeps getting repeated. Bad work at the factory. Low quality control inspection process that either looks the other way or finds this acceptable. Either way they lost a customer in me. I can't tell you how disappointed I am in my last 3 Case knives. The same exact thin happened with Queen. Before they went under I bought 5 or 6 in a row that looked great in pics and then when they came they were bad, real bad. I wrote the company and told them about the issues and that they had lost a customer who buys a lot of knives. They didn't care and very soon after that, like within 2 years, Queen was out of business. I see the same thing happening with Case, although they sell so many for way less money maybe people are willing to accept it. Or Case can survive on their other lines besides traditionals. But they have dropped their level of quality control so much I can't support them anymore and this had been discussed on here for at least a decade that I know of. They are not improving, they are getting worse. Bad sign of things to come. I thought my 1980s and 1990s Case were bad compare to the 1960s and 70s. Now I wish for the 90s quality because the last Case I bought was terrible in several ways. I'm surprised anyone even buys their knives anymore actually. But not me, I quit. Thanks again for the info and pics, that is worth a thousand words. Have a great one SSK.

I see what you are talking about. It is odd that the edge looks like that on the blade run up. Almost looks like a stamping machine bent it when it cut it out. I think Case must think that if it doesn’t wobble around looking like this, then it ain’t broke. As expensive as Case knives are getting to be, I agree that the quality should be higher on these. That’s one reason I am down to buying 2 or maybe 3 Case knives a year from buying dozens. The only Case knives that meet a higher bar are the Tony Bose collaboration knives, but you have to spend 400 to 1000 to get those. Sorry for your bad experience Iman.

Re: Mail Call !-Post your new pick-ups here............
Exactly what I thought in the stamping process. Because I've seen three almost just like it, same side has the botched tang. I could be wrong though and don't know how they could see that and let it go so long. I have other Case knives with none of that going on from the last decade. Don't know what happened there. And thanks for the condolences although it's my own @#$%^! fault. I should have learned years ago when I send back the last two that were terrible. And it's a recent thing. I was a dedicated Case fan and bought about 30-40 of their knives before about 2016 when everyone on here noticed a definite slide, drop, downturn in the quality control. And it so sad because I have a bunch of Case knives from the 60-70s that were fabulous, on par with GEC stuff so I know they know how to build a great knife. And their old red bone from that era was top of the line, best in the business to me. I cannot say enough good about old Case knives so I'm no Case hater. But man, the last few years have turned me away over and over. Just keeps getting worse so I will send my money elsewhere from now on. I can't see buying another Case knife until I have seen some big improvement and I doubt it will happen because it's going the other direction. But it's good to hear others like you give your experience and I completely agree. Glad you like yours, I have to say it's a beautiful knife. Glad you got a good one and are happy. Incidentally the Tdrop here that I have from 2014 has none of these issues. Very fine run up, and everything else. Don't know why they botched the 54s up so bad.Sharpnshinyknives wrote: ↑Thu Aug 25, 2022 6:22 pm I see what you are talking about. It is odd that the edge looks like that on the blade run up. I got shipped to me today a box of knives, most went in my store, but this Moki was already spoken for but I wanted to show it. For any of you that has never had a Moki they are handmade in Japan and they are in line with custom made one offs. This happens to be a Glory MOP.

Beautiful. I've got a Quince wood version and as you said, like a custom. For the price I am always surprised I don't see more people around here carry one. I would say the lock up on the one I have is better than anything I have except maybe a Tim Britton custom that was 4 times the price. Great knives.JamieinWV wrote: ↑Fri Aug 26, 2022 1:19 am I got shipped to me today a box of knives, most went in my store, but this Moki was already spoken for but I wanted to show it. Can't go wrong with a Moki Jamie.
Mark from SSk turned a bunch of us on to these knives, and like Iman it surprises me more folks don't own any. It REALLY surprises me that Mark still has so many left for sale considering the positive response he got when he introduced his exclusive line to our forum. With Christmas right around the corner those of you who are yet to buy a Moki may want to consider them as gifts!

This is my 4th knife purchase this month (the month I was supposedly going to stop buying knives entirely) which, to be fair, is actually very few for me. Nevertheless, it would seem that the first step to stop buying knives is to stop looking at knives that are for sale.
I have a weakness for Wharncliffe Swaybacks...I can't resist buying them...I've tried, but I just can't do it. Can anyone say "addiction"?
This is a Solingen, Germany made OTTER Messer with wood handle. I bought it thinking it would make a good candidate for modification. However, once I got it in hand I found I really like the wood handle so now I'm not sure if I want to mod it or not.
Decisions, decisions.

That's the spirit ~Q~, more not less! You mention how good the wooden handles look and feel, and it's the way they fit so cleanly up against the bolsters and their smooth look that I first noticed, they appear to be extremely well done. I am so relating to your buying dilemma regarding your inability to pass up on Wharncliffe Swaybacks, my Achilles heel is and always has been stiletto automatics, which I have so unashamedly announced on this forum many times! The only thing stopping me is my financial situation, but once I get that back in order it's back to buy, buy, buy! If you are/were buying 4 and more knives per month you obviously are still working or are independently wealthy, but which ever it is I say if you have the funds buy the things that make you feel good, like Wharncliffe Swaybacks! LOL!

Good looking knife, I have watched and looked at them many times. Was wondering how the fit and finish is and the build quality and overall execution of these Otters? How do they compare to a Case (low end quality) or a GEC (better quality)? Any reviews would be appreciated. Thanks and enjoy. Is that carbon steel? Thanks again in advance.QTCut5 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 26, 2022 9:46 pm This is my 4th knife purchase this month (the month I was supposedly going to stop buying knives entirely) which, to be fair, is actually very few for me.

That is very, very nice ~Q~, I don't have any of that brand so I guess I will have to be on the lookout.
Here is what the Post Rider brought me today.
A Bartenders knife. Inexpensive with tin bolsters and clamshell type scales. It's relativity new in very
good shape. Made in Germany but I have no idea by whom.

Re: Mail Call !-Post your new pick-ups here............
That Otter is interesting. Looks like a great knife. Love the wooden handles.
Don’t know why I just had to have this knife. I must say I am impressed. I am not a tactical guy for the most part but the lines on this knife got my attention. It’s a Boker Magnum made in China, Brachyptera linerlock. Where they got that name is beyond me. The handles are G-10 with the blade made of 440B stainless steel. Sharp as a razor and flips open smoothly. Almost cut a finger closing it the first time, that blade is long and it’s easy to get a finger in the way. The blade centers perfectly and I can’t find a single flaw in the way it was built.
